With its gym, pool, sauna and steam room, Roxbury YMCA was enjoyable for me.
The facility and equipment are dated. The air conditioning is often not working. The space is tight. People are on top of one another. The staff is disconnected. My card information was comprised here. It needs a major revamp. Great to sign up and use membership to attend other YMCAs in MA. If you are simply looking for a basic gym to do the trick, by all means, go.
Where do i start... never had any problems with this place untill it came down to enroll my kids in swimming lessons.. 1 out of 3 kids i paid up front. The other 2 were thru a 3rd party federal program that the buisness and aquatics deptartment said they never received the checks sent to them for over 2 weeks which is a lie.. i signed my kids up(2 group classes and 1 private due to having autism) back in Early June.. its almost the end of July my kids have only been 1x to swimming due to maintenance issues the pool has had.. nobody from the director of aquatics to the director of the Roxbury ymca has reached out to issue apologies or refunds.. this is unethical & unprofessional and tacky. If this was of a certain demographic im pretty sure people would be informed and more.. but furthermore.. i will never return here and will take my kids to an outside district Ymca.. i refuse to come back for this inconsistent of the mangement to the staff, their customer service is despicable.

Equipment is worn and often out of service. Rarely any staff available to assist members. My favorite class was cancelled without notice and no replacement in sight.
I'm disappointed that management seems disconnected from the reality of the situation. I'm not going back.
I go here to work out and it is been pretty decent so far. Plenty of equipment to use despite the seemingly tight area. It can get very hot in there, which can sometimes make it harder to exercise, but that's really the only complaint I have. I haven't been to the swimming pool, but it is a large pool and seems to be kept up nicely

If you are interested in a one-time, trial workout, it is NOT clear that such a thing exists there. I had been misinformed by a staff person that I could do a no obligation trial workout and that upon exiting, if I was not pleased, that they would simply tear up the form. This did not occur and they had been billing me. Ultimately they resolved the issue. Make sure that IF you fill anything out, that you must cancel it within 3 days in writing and do not take any front desk person's word for it. #LessonLearned. In the end, this facility did not work for me. The facility needs updating as does the equipment.

Went in to check it out for a one-time workout but had to fill out a form beforehand. Upon completing my workout, I informed the person at the desk that I was NOT interested in a membership and I was assured that the form would be torn up. They have been charging me nonetheless and so far I have not been able to get anyone on the phone nor respond to my emails.
People seating on the equipment having 20+mints conversations talking loud with another gym goer without using the equipment, also people talking loud on their cellphones nobody says anything. People making jokes talking loud in groups and that is very annoying and distracting. And the staff doesnt do anything
