This gym has been unknowingly charging me a monthly membership following a trial. This scummy gym weaseled $360 over the course of 8 months and I never even received a key badge. At least Planet Fitness is upfront about robbing people.

In summary Pros: good location. Cons: BE VERY CAREFUL for Signing up for ANY of their training programs, they have a bad customer service and they will try to CHARGE you EXTRA 300$ when you want to cancel

Pros: The location of the gym is good and for a gym in the middle of the city it gets the job done. Yes, maybe very few squat stations for the demand but it is in general ok for doing basic workouts.

Cons: Be VERY CAREFUL when signing up for ANY training programs. Everything is positive when signing up.. But cancelling is a PAIN and they try to CHARGE you 300$ extra! I was very clear that I only want a training for 3 months (their minimum requirement). Both the manager and trainer were there and said it is fine. From a month ago my trainer said he is not going to be working there anymore and mentioned I don't have to continue but mentioned some options for me. I just stopped by the manager office just to make sure they are not charging me for the next month now that 3 months are done. The manager, Jon, said the "software" says you will be charged almost 300$ at the end of the month for the next coming month! I asked him if he can cancel it since I am not going to be around and I clearly had stated that I only want this for 3 months and they had said it is fine. He said it is the system and he can't do anything. I really don't understand what is the role of manager is there if everything about customer relationship and customer service is decided by the "system" or "software". I also mentioned to him in last 3 months I have spent 1200$ on personal training and that gym and was thinking of continuing doing that if I will be back and around that Gym and maybe he can consider customer relationship in handling this issue. Especially for someone who has already paid this amount and is potentially going to pay again if they keep the ties. He said sorry.. it is the "system" and he can't go against that. In any case I will follow up with a lawyer and cancel my credit cards. I certainly don't think it is right to be charged for a service I am not going to be around to get, and for something that I have clearly stated about it when signing up. So .. Just BE CAREFUL for ANY personal training program you sign up for at this gym!

BSC central square is my weekend gym. Great location and decent size. I enjoy it. Three stars for all the water fountains- it;s super important to get this fixed. I can't be the only one who tastes the filters not being changed. It's actually pretty noticeable. The equipment is a little outdated. Could towels be in a better location?

I work nearby and love BSC Cambridge for classes that fit into my work schedule. The front desk and management are kind. Instructors all have their own style and I love the classes I take. It's a little hard during peak times to find a workout on the floor (as expected) so if you want a guaranteed good workout, take classes (sign up in the app!).

I switched to this gym from Healthworks in Porter where I'd been a member for five years. I live just a few blocks away and can walk here, and while the BSC definitely feels run-down and the weights are crowded during peak times and the equipment is frequently broken or dangerous-looking and the AC doesn't really work and the management seems to not care about anything, I got a deal... $20/month forever! Healthworks had absolutely terrible management as well, and it was appalling how little they cared about often dangerous conditions, given how much they charge ($80-$120/month). If there's gonna be pathetic customer service, at least I'm not paying much for it! Ayyy.

I've also been a member briefly a few times at VIM in Central, and while the facility seems much nicer, it's gotten very expensive. The killer is that the VIM under HMart is totally un-usable to me due to the air fresheners they pump through the facility. The air quality is extremely poor, and I go there to... you know... be healthy and breathe hard. For some reason the City allows HMart's cooking exhaust to go into VIM (??) so you're inhaling carbon monoxide, food particles, and toxic air freshener if you go there... be warned! So, BSC it is for now...

Anyway. The BSC could really use more benches given how many people lift here. The cardio area is pretty unusable not really due to anything that's BSC's fault, it's all the dudes sweating while wearing toxic cologne. Hold your breath going past that locker room for sure! One other thing: joined BSC at the beginning of June, and the steam room has been broken since then (It's now August 3). Hoping that will be fixed by winter because if I can't get my post-training steam on in the cold, that'll be the end of this affair. :)

A budget fitness club with lots of equipment s. However between 5 and 7 pm it is really crowded.

Nice selection of free weights and cardio equipment. Also offers some studio rooms open to all to work outside of the main area. Staff is cleaning the gym everyday which is a huge plus. Also offers free towels to members to use.

I enrolled in BSC in September last year but was travelling a lot and only used the gym for two months. I have been ripped off by the club, first, by getting over charged and then having them deduct fees from me monthly as well. The manager Krystyna said she will give me a month free of charge and freeze my account, however, I still got charged. There was some rolling credit of $45 as well, yet I got charged every month and was led on by the manager here.

So far I haven't been able to get any refund. I have contacted the club and member services at Town Spirts International. I am still waiting to get a refund.

I was enrolled at another sports club the YMCA in the Boston area but joined this just because it was near to where I lived. If you want to get ripped off and get unhelpful customer service this is the place.

The gym itself isn't big and it's in a basement. There is also a 45 day notice for cancellation for which they ask you to pay $25. Not sure why they require 45 days to let someone go while when they want members it takes 5 minutes to set up their account

They tricked me into a membership when I asked if it could be transferred to any club since I was moving. NO it cant. But, the facilities are good.

Relative to the price, the gym is excellent value. It's large and has a wide variety of equipment. Some of it may be old but it's maintained to still be very well useable. Patrons are a good mix of young and old, muscle hunks and beer bellies, the gorgeous and the ugly. ;) Today the steam room was out of order but the sign indicating the specific spare part they are waiting for to be replaced inspired trust. The Finnish sauna was good and also a nice social experience.

I found a good offer for a 30 day guest pass online; note that it's not sold in the gym. I can see where complaints about poor service are coming from - the receptionist was really friendly with a regular but therefore made me wait while chatting away with him. It wasn't a big deal but it could have annoyed anyone in a rush. I guess good service needs to be earned here! :)

They have all of the equipment necessary, and it's never over crowded. With the right instructor (Great spin instructor), the classes can be worthwhile, however not all instructors are created equally. There is not enough variety in class times for me though. There is either early morning, or after work hours, with the exception of a noon spin class. The locker room is large, plenty of showers, a steam, and sauna room. Bathroom stalls are clean. The steam room is usable, but not the best. I'm really not confident in how well they clean it. Same with the showers. I think the cleaners just throw some lipstick on it, and call it a day. The sauna seems fine. Always bring your own shampoo etc. Their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all body was poured into different bottles. It's been that way for the past year. I use this gym because it's convenient, they have the machines I like to use, and you can't beat the price; that's the end goal. I recommend it under those conditions.

It's a gym! I haven't run into any of the issues the other folks mention, and at thirty bucks a month it's the most affordable game in town. (protip: if you're signing up, leave your email address and let them schmooze you over a week or two, a discount WILL Be offered). I haven't had to experience cancellation which some reviews say is a pain, but as far as the facilities I find them quite serviceable, with the exception of not enough drinking fountains (one on the floor, one in each locker room and that's it). Staff has been friendly and so far I have no gripes

Although this Boston Sports Club is crowded and in the basement, I find it a pleasant place to work out. The space is divided in two and easy to navigate. There is a steamroom and sauna. The staff is pleasant.

Good space, although I wish they had a pool here. Zumba classes and yoga classes are pretty good for workout.

October 23, 2017 07:53

They were initially mofos about their guest pass terms, but management set them straight. I still need to correct the front desk. If they had more than one water fountain and two squat racks I'd give them five stars. Clean, decently maintained, it's the local gym and it delivers. Oh yeah the group training classes are basically in a fishbowl so everybody can stare at you doing yoga. But yeah.
