I absolutely LOVE working out here! It is a hop, skip and a jump to the red line and the staff is so friendly. After a month in, I did a complimentary session with the FM Megan and decided to buy training! She was so personable and helped pair me with my current trainer! The price is a great value for the service and equipment! I hear more upgrades are coming soon!
I was a previous member and recently joined back up because I heard there was a lot of new equipment, new paint, and new management. I have to say that this place is 20x better than when I was a member in 2018. Gym is clean, new equipment, and everyone is so much friendlier! The training staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I may actually start training now as I got a lot out of my complimentary session! Glad to be back!
Just recently joined this gym and amazing is an understatement. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and nice. The cardio equipment seems to be all new and up to date with the latest technology. I would highly recommend joining!
I've been going to the Davis Square location for over 3 years and have to say, it can be great at times, but then you get reminded of how poorly the club is managed and wonder why you pay so much for so little.
Today (01/29/2020) the Davis locaiton did not open untill after 6:30AM (posted hours are 5:30AM). I can appreciate the moring opener had an emergency but the fact that the GM does not have more than 1 employee open the gym every morning, and there is no alternate in the event of illness/emergency is astounding. Add to the fact that after calling all the other gyms in Boston (who dont have the GM's contact info), another employee got to Davis before the GM, and this is at 6:30AM!
I pay $70/month (just so you know, they increase your rate every year by $5.00) and standing outside in 32* temps for an hour does not seem to be $70/month quality.
I'd like to report that this is a one-off but this location has a history of poor quality, from messy locker rooms (see pictures) to the gym being closed while being an absolute mess. Again - I dont think $70/month quality involves spending my first 20 mins re-racking weights and clearing the space of empty water bottles and used towels from the night before.
I've tried multiple times to bring this up and the buck gets passed along - I highly recomend looking anywhere else if you can, this location alone is the only reason I still go but have started looking at alternates closer to work. If you are deciding between BSC and another gym, choose the other and save your money.
Just recently joined this club and it is amazing!!! I have been getting the best workouts of my life, and for the first time actually enjoy going to the gym! I am happy that i didn't listen to these past reviews and based my experience on my own opinions. Since my short time at the gym, they have gotten new equipment left and right, and is rumored to even be expanding the turf in the very near future!!! I would highly recommend joining this gym and bringing all of your friends too! I recently referred my roomates and got rewarded for doing that too! Starting 2020 off right!
Trainers are friendly and nice, well the ones that were once there (they have all left) New manager is super unfriendly and rude!! Corporate is horrible too to deal with. Get that cancelation confirmation in writing they will keep charging you even after you request a cancelation in person. Also for a place that has so much office space why does the neon dressed trainer use the stairs as his office, camp, and storage area?

They charge you for a membership well after cancellation even if you adhere to their 45 day notice. Avoid at all costs. There are better options who don't use these predatory practices to squeeze money out of people.
Awesome gym with regulars and staff who all seek to help build each other up. Like a second home with great people and plenty of squat racks!!

Top floor was extremely warn. Second wasn't a whole lot better. Was only 75 degrees outside so I wouldn't expect HVAC to be that ineffective. Ended up cutting workout short and won't be returning to this location.

Again this morning, which happens once or twice a month. No one shows up for open at 5:30 AM. People linger about like lost souls as some or most also shower there on their way to work. The sad part is you always believe and hope that in the next two minutes someone will show up. At 5:30 they never show up a little late. They are luck Jere is no competition near by. Please do better

I lost my workout shoe. I informed the staff and they were not helpful. They don't have 'lost and found' so if you loss something, it is gone for good. Disappointing service!
stay away! expensive with so many hidden fees. I left the gym after 6 months unsatisfied! Take time to look into other gyms in the area that offer similar services with lower fee.

I switched from the Allston to Davis gym after moving. I was initially excited by the modern decor. But disappointed by the fact I'm paying a higher monthly rate for less machines, older machines, and shorter hours. This is the only gym I've ever been to that only has 1 lat pulldown machine...I would love it if y'all could please add 1 more as well as a upright nautilus straight ahead bench press , curved curling barbell weights. More machines will allow members to finish their workouts quicker to accommodate the shorter hours. Thanks!

Posting your flyers on Davis Square lamp posts for the last two years is not only unsightly, but illegal, as described to me by a Somerville police officer who was removing them. Such behavior makes me wonder about your other business practices.
Specific instructor makes women really uncomfortable and management won't do anything about it (despite multiple complaints from different women). Just paid $85 to cancel, stay away
Been a member for 4+ years and I work out there many times a week. The employees are fantastic: they're always positive, they take note when you bring something up to them, they have a passion to help you work out, and they wish you a good day on your way out.
2016 update: Terrible equipment maintenance, and overcrowded at peak hours. More than half the treadmills don't work, most of the TVs are defective, and staff will tell you "you shouldn't run so fast" on treadmills when you tell them the treadmills need to be fixed.
2018 update: new management at this branch, very happy folks, eager to make your day. It's gotten more crowded, treadmills still go out of order, they got rid of conditioner and lotion in the locker rooms, and combined their body wash and shampoo into the same product (smells, feels, looks the same). Also, the men's paper towel dispenser was replaced with a cheaper version that doesn't work. They also removed 4 TVs from treadmills and haven't put them back in over a year. Still convenient though, ok if not crowded, folks who work there are amazing.
The equipment needs some help. It's rare when all treadmills are functioning, and it usually takes over a week to repair any down equipment. This is a problem during peak hours when they're at capacity and have a few pieces of equipment just sitting around. I wouldn't mind it as much if membership was lower, but they're charging quite a lot when compared to other gyms with nicer equipment. Also, almost all the cardio TVs don't work.The weight section is decent, but quickly becomes cramped during most normal gym hours.
Yes, they offer cheap $20/month plans, but you're charged a massive amount upfront, you're locked out of certain gym options and have to pay for each towel. You can jump on their standard plans, which are ok, and then you can buy their premium plans which let you visit any "Sports Club" location.
Now here is an unnecessarily long rundown of everything I can think of about BSC Davis:
* Fantastically convenient location in the heart of Davis
* Has child care (never used it myself)
* Has free to use tiny valuable lock boxes
* Towels must be picked up at the front desk (annoying)
* One vending machine inside
* Locker rooms have locks for overnight use you can rent
* Showers are ok, doors never shut right, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash is provided
* They have a sauna (never used it myself)
* Stair masters face the windows, work well
* Elliptical machines face the window, work ell
* About 20 treadmills, most work fine, but some a few have worn motors and struggle at higher speeds. I frequently run on their treadmills and have had a few fail when I was running on them. I'm not an average runner, so they'll work for most people. I just wish they'd upgrade all their treadmills.
* two spin bikes for general use, they work fine, sometimes are missing a knob
* Line of standard stationary bikes, they're fine
* Standard set of weight machines, about two of each kind. Some of the pins for finer weight adjustments are missing
* Stretching areas are ok, but the soft foam is ripping in some places and the areas get super crowded
* Free weights are good, just not always organized (this is a problem with every gym).
* They should get another squat rack, but they don't have room.
* Rowing machines are usually working. They had one that clicked if you pulled hard, and it took months to fix
* Fitness studio with speed bag in a corner, and a standing punching bag in another corner. I've never been to a class, but they seem good

* What used to be a nice place to stretch is now a UFX circuit with fake grass, a chain fence on the side, ... you can tell I have a biased opinion. I think the space was better used for stretching and body workouts, but BSC now gets to offer UFX training.
* Smaller free weight section is upstairs, usually organized
* a second fitness studio for spinning classes
* leg and ab machines
Great gyms. Bought a $65 membership and can go to just about any of the gyms in Massachusetts. I use four of them. Clean. Courteous staff great workout classes
Great gym. A little crowded after work, but there's enough to do if you are assertive. Hate to see people sitting at a machine and checking their phones. If you are at a machine use it or get lost. I've got no time to wait for you to send SMS. Yep, that's what I mean by being assertive to get your needs met during peak hours. Classes also fill up super fast if you can only book 12 hrs in advance. (Like within 5 min of 12 hrs prior). Still a great gym for the price. And it's kept clean considering the activity level.
Clean and well maintained gym in an unbeatable location. The sales staff is helpful and friendly. The weight equipment is fairly limited as there are only 2 squat racks and 1 regular bench. But depending on the time of day it is usually not very crowded there.
Expect true headache if you ever try to cancel your membership! Not only were they slow at canceling, but I then realized they had been charging me the wrong rate for months! They then took over two months to correct the incorrect charges.
Clean place and all the equipment you need to exercise. I was in town for a week (during Sept.) and wanted to keep active so I decided to give the closest gym a shot. A kind rep named Skylar helped me get started with my trial membership and showed me all the equipment. Overall Impressive facility in a lively place!
The equipment at this club is very old and not maintained/cleaned as often as I've seen at other BSC locations. Honestly, the only reason I go here is because of convenience. As soon as another gym opens up in/near Davis, I'm gonna bounce.

Don't join this club and if you did please read the contract carefully because the charges are hidden, they will use you all the time and make up charges and fees , in the beginning they will tell you it's just a month to month plan and you will realize that they will charge you for annual fees and cancellation fees for 45 days ?! Is that month to month plan !!!!
Very nice gym. Been going here for almost 2 years now and Staff/Trainers are very friendly and helpful. This gym has all the essentials to get you in the best shape of your life.
Great classes, nice facility, trainers and teachers. For what you get and what you pay, membership is a sweet deal.
