After having gained a stupid amount of weight following an injury, feeling depressed about it, and not living my best life, it was time to shut down the excuses and start to hunt down a gym that would meet my needs.
I don't need a lobby with flashing neon lights and deafening techno music to feel motivated to move. Nor do I need the promise of mint-flavored water while lounging at the rooftop pool after a work-out. I need a place where I can focus on my goals without unnecessary distractions. That's what I love about Chevy Chase Athletic Club.
I've been daily the past week during a free trial period and love the whole vibe of the gym. It's well cared for, sturdy equipment, more than enough cardio and weights to accommodate everyone, no time limit on machines, no waiting for machines, and a great variety of cardio equipment available so you can switch it up.
The weight room has plenty of machines and free weights, along with several rooms for stretching and classes. Clearly everyone from beginners to body builders are welcome -- I felt self-conscious at first about feeling out of place, but everyone's into their own groove. Unlike the gym that advertises, "No judgements" -- at CCAC, it's just implicit.
While I don't need a beautiful environment or the slightest ounce of luxury in a gym, the sweeping treetop views from the cardio room that you've read about in prior reviews is spectacular. The women's locker room is equally spectacular, with towel service, clean showers, shampoo/conditioner/hair dryers, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, well-lit, steam room, lockers with built-in locks ... everything you want/need to transition from gym to office.
The front desk admin went above and beyond to accommodate me (Meena, front desk, even came in early to meet me). In my week there I've met everyone from owner to admin and have experienced, 'Cheers' moments, where everybody knows your name. And I'm not surprised ... if you've got a person with generosity of spirit and a philosophical nature leading a business, they hire like-minded people.
Free trial ended, onward to membership. If you've read this far into my review, no doubt you're convinced to do the free trial. See ya there!
