Best place ever the members are wonderful the staff is extremely awesome i love working with all of them oh an by the way its a great place to work we are family

Merritt Clubs Fort Avenue is a community of fit minded people. The club has a comprehensive set of strength and cardio equipment, outdoor pool, and many great fitness classes to chose from. I have taken many classes the instructors are first rate and friendly.

This gym is bias. I can't say racial but I do notice a different vibe/treatment of the black members. Some of the staff are very short and impatient. I sat back and watched one day hoping that I was wrong. Sadly, I wasn't. I am glad I've canceled my membership. Why would you all give Sean Gulliver a response like that?! You didn't even address his concerns. That proves both of our points.

I just joined this gym & i pay 109$ per month NOT worth it! Lizzy the manager is rude and the employees get away with harrassing members like myself , they take "notes" under your account basically giving them ability to lie or make up an incident to get you terminated... (The pool serves alcoholic beverages) the staff said i had to leave because i was in the sauna drunk !!! I never entered the sauna i only went swimming there twice , yet the staff noted in my account that 3 different staff members "noted" i was in the sauna & used profanity because they had NO motive to put me out .. Escorted me out like i was a criminal than lied to cover up for theyre actions.. Than Lizzy the General Manager "sides" with her employees , basically theyre word against mines and as the customer i have "no" say so in the "matter" because Lizzy said "why would her employees lie" , i dont recommend this gym to anyone the staff pick & choose whom to be courteous too " Bias"...

Wanted to join Merritt this summer since I recently moved to Fed, and it would be within walking distance. I called excited today to get a price and they said my membership would be $109 a month! I might've been able to suck it up and pay for the summer months to use the pool, but they require a 12 month membership not month to month which is pointless for this teacher! Sorry but I'm going somewhere else.

Nice gym but not worth the price.. Unfortunately there's no other 24/7 gyms in the area so if you go to the gym before work, this is your only option.

Merritt does a great job in providing all necessary equipment, classes and amenities. For the price you certainly get what you pay for. However, during peak hours you can forget about being able to easily complete your workout without feeling like a sardine. The facility could easily be twice as large and would still feel crammed.

Decent gym. Used to be a member. I cant deal with their corporate greed however. 99per month for a year contract. 149 per month with no contract. Not worth the money now that they raised the price. Usually crowded. Not sure why anyone would want to pay these prices but to each their own.

This is my primary gym and I pay $60 a month for it. So far I've really enjoyed my experience here mainly because it has everything I need and is open 24/7 which is a beautiful thing. I work at the hospital and my hours very unstable so being able to go to the gym at any moment of the day makes things very convinient for my very inconvenient schedule. If you go through my pictures I've hit basically every question I had was checking it out. There's also a pool but it's outdoor so it's closed for the season and will reopen in the summer. Contract lasts a year from sign up so if you want to break it before the year you'll pay a hefty fee. Also you have to mail or come in to cancel so take that into account. If you have no intentions of moving out of Maryland within a year it's worth the investment. Hope this helps!

Merritt Fort Ave is awesome! The staff is really friendly and there is a large variety of equipment. The classes are great, especially the 30 minute Sprint and Hot Yoga classes. Plus, the pool usually has a DJ and bar open on the weekends so it's a great place to hang out. Highly recommend.

To start, the membership is incredibly overpriced for what you get. There is always at least one piece of broken equipment in the gym, the locker room is subpar at best, and it is one of the most overcrowded gyms I have ever been a member of. Even at off peak times you'll find yourself waiting for pieces of equipment.
Beyond that, only a handful of the staff here is friendly and/or helpful. The manager of the facility was exceptionally rude to me more than once and unwilling to offer any help or assistance--promising to call me and then never reaching out. When I then reached out to him again he claimed to have no recollection of saying that and tried to put the blame on me.
Unfortunately, this gym has a monopoly on the city of Baltimore so unless you want to go to planet fitness or leave the city, this is really the only option, and they know it. Lastly, be wary of signing a contract and read the fine print carefully because they will hit you with a $200 cancellation fee if you try to get out of it.

Signed up, and almost immediately regretted it. No tour of the facility, instructors blew off my appointments for their included FIT program, no one at the front desk can help with class sign up or any other information about the gym, and responses to emails are practically non-existent, and if you do finally get an email back they don't bother to answer your question. This place is a scam. Nothing that was offered as part of sign up has been delivered in 13 months of membership. Heidi and Jamie appear to be completely unable to offer basic customer service or deliver services purchased. Despite calling, emailing, and requesting help in person now over 40 times, there is simply no response or resolution. I've spent more time trying to get answers out of this place, than actually in the gym. Stay far, far away.

Amazing gym! I was only in Baltimore for a month and after being helped by Jamie when I inquired about joining, found an perfect gym for the time here. Clean facility, helpful employees, and plenty of equipment.

I have been a member of Merritt Athletic Club on Fort Ave since January 2010. The majority of my time at the gym is spent in classes, whether it's body pump or spin. The instructors are knowledgeable, personable, friendly, helpful, and make going to class fun. Over the past 4 years that I have been a member, the gym as a whole has improved greatly (equipment and instructors as well). There are more free weights and machines to use, and the spin bikes were just recently replaced (and I love them!). I hope to be able to attend different classes in the future but try to make it to Chip K. and Kim K.'s spin classes every chance I can get. The pool is an added bonus in the summertime. I like the atmosphere of the gym, it's clean and has everything I would hope it would offer.
