Awesome
Kristine the general manager is very considerate, nice and it shows that she really cares about the needs of the guests. I come in and she says hi and remembers me.
I leave and she says see you next time. I look forward to going to workout. I love the non judgmental part of Planet Fitness. I love the 30 minute circuit, it is so well set up.
The massage chair, tanning, hydro massage beds and other extra amenities with the $20 membership are worth paying the extra $10. Can't wait to go agian soon.
My wife and I wanted someplace close by our house, so Planet Fitness was less than a mile or so away. We are both doing the typical New Year's resolution, losing weight, which is important more for me as I am a diabetic and considering weight loss surgery soon. I signed up late Sunday night, got the premium membership for the amenities PF offered, and my wife and I went on Monday to work out.
Lots of equipment was available, and the 30 minute circuit room excited my wife because it looked exactly like Curves workout equipment. Tuesday, we had signed up for a tour with Josh McC, one of the trainers. He talked with us about the equipment, showed us the weight machines, and how to use them safely. He was polite, knowledgeable, and available for questions. Kristine introduced herself as we were waiting to use the hydro bed and massage chairs.
Kristine is the epitome of customer service, and her attitude was bright and cheerful. She introduced us to other aspects of our membership, and was helpful with giving us more knowledge about the app, various workout videos, and other perks.
I am looking forward to losing weight, and using other PF facilities if this is a standard example for PF business. Thanks!!!
User friendly great place 4 all of your fitness needs no matter the level/experience.
Love this place. Clean, lot of equipment, and nice environment. I love having the message chair after.
I have been a member at Planet Fitness for 3 weeks. The facility is very modern, clean, and comfortable. The machines are well maintained and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Planet Fitness to anyone.
Great prices for the membership. The staff is a mixture of either very rude, or very helpful and courteous. This place suffers constantly with keeping a trainers. The manager is very rude to guests and I have seen him verbally abuse his employees in front of customers. This location also, lacks size and equipment.

Terrible investment. Okay equipment, none of the customers clean the machines off after use though and I've only ever seen a few employees go around and clean things--they are usually too busy flirting or texting. Save your money

Great place. Very friendly and helpful workers.
Poor equipment maintenance and water warm enough for tea. Otherwise, it's a decent gym.

The staff is always nice. Clean facility. Fun music. The black card membership is worth every penny. Love this place.

Great value. Need to clean better
it would be a 5 if the hrs was longer if the drinking fountain had cold water instead of warm to hot water other then that grate place
A great place to be a member of if you are looking for an affordable gym!
4/5 stars because the price and cleanliness. The staff is friendly enough for how little I would imagine they are paid. I would agree with some of the other comments that it is generally a clean and nice facility with plenty of equipment, but the hours are lame! I would rather they have shorter hours middle week and stay open later Saturday/Sunday if they can't be a full 24/7 like many other PF locations. Nobody works M-F 9-5 anymore. By the time I get off Saturday and Sunday they are always closed. Also the "lunk" policy is ironically discriminatory, and not followed at all. I have never been to this location without seeing at least one guy and/or girl wearing a cut up tank or even just a sports bra - and who cares! Also having a gallon of water = being hydrated, is a problem? Half the time the water fountain spits out hot water anyway - and there's only one of them. Anyone who is "gymtimidated" by the presence of other people in good shape and health has other insecurities they need to personally address, no empty pr campaign is going to fix it. I genuinely don't believe any of the people that go here would ever intentionally shame or make anyone feel unwelcome. It's not a thing Iowans do, let alone an Iowa City native. People who grunt (overtly) and slam weights are just rude - that's it, plain and simple. "Lunks" are people too, and the gym is the place they gather. And as one of the other commentators pointed out there are fewer gyms in IC because PF's low rates drove them out of business. The few regular "lunk candidates" I've seen at this location are very friendly, would never interfere with your workout, and would probably actually help you with your workout, IF AND ONLY IF, you asked. DEAR MANAGEMENT - Show that you actually appreciate and respect your customers and (instead of feeding them fatty carbs twice a month) please reconsider your hours via a member survey - Ask your paying subscribers (at least the black card members) what hours would be the most beneficial for them. Also, remove the very judgmental "lunk" signage. Replace it with tasteful, polite requests to: "Please be considerate to other gym members - Refrain from grunting, slamming weights, and always return weights and wipe off equipment whenever you are finished with it" - That's all you need to say. I have more to say, but that's enough for the public review ;)
Love this gym. Don't feel outta place at all. People are wonderful!! XO
This is a little gymnasium off highway one or six like behind a mall or something..like where the movie theatre is but like around the corner from panera bread and the holla store. I think its like only 10bux a month which is outstanding but like most places in town no hottub or steamroom..so i hear. My friend goes there.
seems like there is a common theme here. I went this Saturday morning to work out before having to be at work by 8:15 and couldn't believe they weren't open? What? Who works 9-5 anymore? I suggest getting into the twenty first century and providing hours for people 7 days a week! The other thing that is so annoying is the TV's and the stations like Fox News when they don't EVER represent MSNBC or other progressive stations? Don't the owners realize that Johnson County is 60% plus progressives? new management is called for
Really need to get rowing machines! People with bad joints need this. My doctor at Steindler recommends a rowing machine and you don't have any, in a town full of injured people looking for one.
Planet fitness is very clean, high tech, and affordable. It is just a great place.
Latest line of life fitness equipment but poorly maintained. Hate it when I have to scratch myself up during a workout when it only takes a few bucks to keep things in good working order. Was told my the assistant manager that this is a 'difficult time since this location is coming up on its 5buear cycle for new equipment. The machines here are the latest line and just need new pads.. let's get'er done management!!. Notified general manager of the issue as well.

I have only been with the gym for a little while, but the staff are all very friendly, and the selection of equipment is great!
Very friendly and welcoming staff. All of the equipment is well maintained and usually available right away. Even during peak hours I am able to get in, do my routine, and get out in a very timely manner. For the price of membership this is a dynamite place to get your swole on or get trim or whatever you need to do at a gym. Seriously....no gymtimidation is right.
Very casual. Very accepting. EXCEPTIONALLY priced.
Bad hours = Bad review.
All other PFs I've used are 24/7. I drive down to Iowa City a couple weekends a month. I don't get in until about 8:30 Friday and they close at Fridays at 9.
I can't always make the limited 7-7 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Everything else is great - nice and clean, good equipment selection... but the hours kill it.
I'll be more than happy to improve this review if they improve the hours at this location.
The staff are fake and completely rude. I hear them talking and laughing about other people as well as my self they have horrible fake attitudes I pay way to much Damn money for that kind of service. Need new management. Absolutely disgusting beaver for a business.
Best priced gym in Iowa City. Big enough that there are always enough machines available. Wide variety of cardio equipment, free weights, and machine weights to choose from. Open at convenient times and the staff is always friendly! I wish they had another location in Coralville!
This is a pretty decent gym, having had memberships with about five or six gyms in my life. It essentially gets the basics right, and as someone else said, it's very much the "McDonald's of gyms". It's clean, quite spacious (usually), the staff are friendly and helpful, and very rarely will any of the equipment be out of order.
However, the lack of real benches in favor of around six smith machines is incredibly disappointing. I understand yet disagree with the general brand PF propagates of power lifters and fitness freaks receiving scorn; to elaborate on how I feel about this/momentarily rant - your rates are so competitive you undercut and drove one of the best gyms in town, Core Fitness, away. They were totally respectful of "lunks" as you might call them. I agree that people shouldn't be openly judging others/screaming as they lift, but what is actually the point you're trying to make by sly digging people who wear tank tops and drink from gallon water jugs? People at PF do this already. Sorry about this, I just really loved Core Fitness and PF is absolutely why they're no
longer down the road anymore. I digress ..
I'm not sure if their image they're trying to propagate is why there are *only* smith machines, but that could be it. They're extremely versatile and simple but they don't come close to actual benches.
Speaking of the smith machines - on a given afternoon, after about four o'clock, it's not uncommon for each of them to be occupied *by the same people* for 45 minutes or longer. It's great they have as many as they do, and maybe this isn't a failing of PF so much as people being inconsiderate and slow, but it's a big problem when they're all you have. The more specific machines in the middle of the gym are fine but they can't fully replicate what having access to a bar achieves. Maybe put up some signage about being considerate.
Also, as of writing this, the only source of airflow in the majority of the weight lifting area is either disabled or broken - the giant fan. It can get uncomfortably stuffy in this area as a result. Airflow is mandatory for me in fitness facilities, and this is becoming a nuisance.
So, in summation: affordable, clean, friendly atmosphere, lack of benches sucks, and slow people suck. Thanks.
