Best CrossFit box in Iowa City!! The coaches know what they are talking about and place a huge emphasis on form and safety. This is the box that focuses on efficiency and endurance. Great atmosphere! Wonderful community
Austin is a great coach. Definitely is easy to work with and flexible with scheduling. Moreover, he is also willing to thoroughly explain and assist with lifting movements to those he teaches.

Great gym with amazing staff! I was new to CrossFit and the coaches here take the time to train you and truly care about your progress. The facility is HUGE and the equipment is top notch. My strength and form have improved significantly. I highly recommend this place if you are looking to get fit and have fun doing it!

If you're thinking about joining... this is your sign. Do it!
I joined a little over 5 months ago and had very little experience with a barbell. I came in wanting to get into the best shape of my life and thinking CrossFit was the hardest thing I could do. It's definitely challenging, but it's not impossible! The foundations program really helped me ease into CrossFit without being intimidated (I had no idea CrossFit had its own vocabulary!).
I think what makes CrossFit Kilo so great is the atmosphere. The coaches are amazing at their jobs, always positive, and really care about you as an athlete and as a person. Same with the other athletes! Every workout always ends with high fives and fist bumps, even if you may have never been in a class with them before.
Also, the sweat & stretch class is one of my favorite things ever! Tauni is amazing and I always look forward to her mobility exercises every week

Austin and all of the coaches are AWESOME! They will keep you motivated and provide an extremely friendly atmosphere! Haven't had a day yet where I haven't looked forward to a work out!

Been working out at CK2 for a little under a year and it's far and away the best Crossfit/fitness experience I've had. Trainers are kind and smart and always aware of your level. Athletes range from total newcomers to internationally competitive Crossfit games athletes. Big focus on getting your form right before you move up in weight so don't see a lot of injuries -- people are always asking that about Crossfit so I say it up front. Also an awesome place for women to work out. There are a few great women trainers and you will never feel belittled as I think some women feel in weight rooms in other contexts. Great student deal as well. Thanks guys!
Super fun group of people and great instruction. Austin, the owner and head trainer, has been extremely accommodating schedule-wise and really works hard to keep the gym available, clean, and welcoming.
Update:
I've been "Kilo trained" for about a year now, and I still love this gym. The programing works. For example: I had been working out for about a year somewhere else when I first joined Kilo II. At that time I had a really tough time completing the CrossFit benchmark workout "Grace" even after scaling it. Now, after 1 year at Kilo II with Armand's programming and all the great coaching from, Austin, Luke, Streat, etc., I just completed "Grace" at the Rx weight in ~4 minutes! But that's not all, after that we did 30x135lb lunges and 30 wallballs! (MARCH 27, 2018) Sure it sucked, but a year ago I would have baulked at the idea. The coaches and community are still great, of course.
Best gym I have ever been to. Excellent for all skill levels
Dropped in to CrossFit Kilo ll while in town for work, I was very impressed with how they conduct class. Everyone warmed up together and went through all the movements together before performing the WOD. Many scaling options for all movements. I will definitely be back when I'm in town again.
This Crossfit Gym ROCKS! I joined in late December 2016 and feel great from a physic standpoint. All instructors are very hospitable and focus on doing the right moves at your current level. My wife enjoys the workout as much as I do which is great given we are both on different levels.
Another great thing about this gym is the community, there are so many amazing people around. I feel blessed to have been recommended to it by my friend Dave.
Can't wait to see how strong I'll get by December 2017.
This is my first CrossFit experience and box. Still, the coaches genuinely care to see the members grow and develop themselves into better athletes. It also isn't highway robbery on your wallet like other boxes in town.
I'll admit that I was a crossfit hater when I saw that video of Chris Spealler doing 100 butterfly pull-ups years ago. Last year, I joined this gym with the recommendation of my co-workers and it completely changed my mind on crossfit. If you're in the same boat, I suggest you give it a chance. It's the same idea as swimming freestyle vs butterfly. Same goal, but different movements.
If you're worried about not having any experience, I had zero experience doing Olympic lifts when I started. I was also hesitant to do such dynamic movements because I've had back pain for years. The coaches (Austin, Luke (best music), Streat, Chase, Mac, Dylan, Meredith, and Rachel) are extremely knowledge and high-level athletes; with their instruction, I've learned to do the movements without any injuries.
It's been about 10 months in and I am the fittest I've ever been. The community is amazing and help push you to reach your goals. In terms of other crossfit gyms around, I've traveled around and Kilo's membership is the cheapest I've ever seen for crossfit gym and it's basically always open. It is truly an unbeatable value for the level of coaching, community and equipment.
Just dropped in for a class. I'm from out of town and drop in all over the country. This is, hands down, one of the best experiences I've had. Every person at the gym was friendly and welcoming. The coaching was encouraging and stern as it ought to be and I'll definitely be dropping in when I'm in town. If you live locally you are lucky to have a gym like this to go to. Don't wait, join up and #keepshowingup

My experience with CrossFit has been 3 years in a "box" and the last 2 years in my garage. I didn't realize I was missing more out of my workout until I drove by CrossFit Kilo 2.
The gym is clean, the equipment is in great shape and Austin, along with his coaches, are very knowledgeable. I feel I get one-on-one coaching even in a bigger class. It's also a very welcoming atmosphere. Hands down this is a great place to "embrace the suck."
