Love this gym! Tim is the best trainer around, the machines are vast and varied and the sauna is awesome.
Staff is helpful. Classes offered at no extra charge are taught by excellent teachers each offer various strengths in their programs so if one is not to your liking try another class. There is no excuses for not exercising.
Clean gym, friendly staff. Locker area is clean but not fancy. Great location. Safe for women
Its alright. They have a wide Variety of machines but its very old fashioned in there. I also disliked the parking set up. Free to park For an hour. Anything more and you have to pay. You also have to pay for street parking. Cardio equipment is a bit out dated. But its clean and spacious. Members are nice
This is a fine gym. It has all the equipment you need for whatever kind of workout you're trying to do.The location is great and parking is easy. Maintenance isn't as great as it could be. I've seen stations taped off with a bucket to catch water from the leaking ceiling many times.
LA Fitness Evanston has a lot of great things doing for it: very large facility, friendly trainers, a ton of equipment, and located in a very convenient area. Where I have faced problems is with the corporate-set pricing and membership ideology. For example, towels are an extra $10/month, but I had to pay a $23 "upgrade fee" which the front desk staff wouldn't really explain. A few months ago, I wanted to pay more to bring other friend with me every workout, but they said that since I was adding it after my membership started, it was going to be $30/mo, which is just the cost of an additional membership.
I just wish that LA Fitness was more relaxed on pricing, because it's become stressful for all members to modify memberships.

Cancellation is a nightmare that takes longer than it should. Bottom line: not worth the price.

As far as the LA Fitness gyms go, this is one of the bigger ones. It's not usually crowded. The front desk are the rudest of all the gyms I've been too. They never greet you, they just leave the scanner on the counter and watch television. There was a nice guy about 6 months ago, but they must have fired him because he actually tried and made the rest of these people look bad.

This place is poorly run - there are trainers who have their clients running up and down the stairs during peak times, when people are trying to use the stairs to get to/from the gym. This despite the fact that the "warm room" was closed off the "training clients only". Also, there was a woman cleaning the men's locker room during the morning rush. Finally, they have posted a policy where only people who pay for towel service can use towels - WHAT??? You mean I've been paying for a service since the gym opened, and other people have been getting the service for free??? For the amount they are collecting in fees, they need to do better.

Multiple location convenience, but clientele depends on where you go. I prefer Evanston. Fellow lifters are good. Sauna, pool, and basketball court are available are available.
The pool is very nice there. Hot tub has been down for over 2 months. Current status is that tiles are on order, and they have no idea when it will be fixed.
First the good. I love that you can swim at this location and at least for me I've not have trouble getting a lane. The gym is large and well equipped. Now for the not so good. The showers are often in need of repair, there is an odd smell from time to time in the free weights area. I think that they could do much better at cleaning the facility, but they have friendly staff and it's not too busy.

Really Poor customer service!!! . There has been a couple of times that i ask for a towel at the front desk and they just say they are in the dryer. I have been in other locations that they offer and apology and they also offer to bring you the towel to where you are as soon as they are available. I have also reported that they sauna smell really bad for two days. The only think the girl at the desk told me was "That is impossible" instead of offer to resolve the issue and reported immediately. Really poor customer service.
This LA Fitness is the primary location in Evanston. The facility is nice and the clients seem friendly (i was having trouble finding the pool, asked some ladies in the locker room and they literally walked me to it, no problem). The customer service was a tad pushy, tho. I think upper mgmt pushes them to meet monthly quotas, bc the guy we meet with repeatedly asked when i thought i could sign up after i repeatedly told him I'd have to assess my situation and get back to him when i could. He ended up offering us a discounted family rate and a free 15-day trial membership to sweeten the pot. He threw in towel service for free. Needless to say, we certainly left feeling good.
Many of the problems of the past have been corrected. The staff that does the cleaning keeps the men's locker room and other areas stocked and clean. Great Job
It is a nice large gym with lots of equipment. I wish they had longer weekend hours.
Its wonderful love ot only day 3 today yay. Im going be fit all winter to shine all summer of the year soon lol.

Anthony is continuously offering a helping hand to everyone in need and provides an encouraging/motivating space where many people thrive. Anthony is at the gym in the morning when I attend and also in the evening which is a strong demonstration of his dedication to assisting people with their success.

I've been a member of LA Fitness for approximately 18 months. At first, I was excited to join this particular location, as they are in the unique position to have the facilities to offer volleyball open gym three times a week. Over time though, it became clear that, at least in some aspects, the location is managed poorly. The front desk staff is mostly friendly, but largely unprofessional. Not as in rude, but as in... inept, and lacking any care or consideration. They are permanently busy with their cellphones, horsing around, or shooting hoops inside the basketball court area while wearing their street shoes. And good luck trying to bring up to their attention the fact that the volleyball/basketball court, in their own admission, has NEVER been mopped. Or that almost daily, it looks like someone spilled a garbage can and just spread food wrappers, water and sport drinks bottles, and dirty towels all over the floor. We've brought this up to their attention multiple times but we only get excuses along the lines of "oh, we haven't had a janitor in 6 weeks", or we haven't had an ops manager in two months, etc. Overall, it's a nice, new-ish facility that doesn't get too crowded. But it does need a change in culture, and a site manager, responsible for promoting it.
Okay if you have low expectations. I just need a place close to home to run on the treadmill and this is the cheapest. Not particularly clean or well maintained but plenty of space in the locker rooms, never a wait for the treadmill. Be prepared to ignore many requests to sign up for personal training, refer friends, or try the product of whatever random other company has a table set up. The pool closes all the time for maintenance so don't waste your money if you only plan to swim.
I've been training here for about two months and I love it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is never crowded (at least when I go there) and there is always plenty of room to do your workouts. You also get a free personal fitness assessment when you join the club, which was very helpful for me personally (a fitness newbie).
Nice facility. Anthony is an awesome pretty much if you get personal trainer. He is very thorough and explains things so that you can be successful with whatever goal you have set for yourself.
The pool has been closed "for repairs" most of this month. I was told today, July 20, 2017, that it will not be open for several months. It's not the first time either as the pool and hot tub are often closed for "repairs or cleaning" - It's very unpredictable especially if you are training for a tri-athlon, you're better off joining an other club, like XSport nearby in Skokie, on Toughy Ave. (Don't go to the LA Fitness in Ravenswood either, the pool only has 3 lanes AND it's always crowded!)
It's pretty well maintained, they do their best to keep bathrooms clean. If the bathroom is ever dirty and you inform them, they respond quickly
Great staff, good gear, but the swimming pool is filthy and busy in the summer which is a huge shame. Sauna isn't very hot and there is no machine to press your swimwear. Weights can be scattered around do a point where you have to forage for medicine balls before settling down for your workout.
No free parking or locker rentals.
There is one member of the staff who doesn't sound his time behind the desk eating, texting, or wandering off. ONE. You really get what you pay for here so if you keep that in mind, you'll be fine.
