Have been working with Tim and Jen at Fostering Movement Studio a few times a week for the past 6 months, my first ever experience of Pilates, and it has been transformative. I couldn't find an exercise routine that didn't exacerbate my back pain, but hadn't given up hope. I met Tim, who is just the right combination of friendly, cheerful, knowledgable, and task master, and decided to give Pilates a try. Tim brought all his experience as a dancer, masseuse, and Pilates instructor to bear and I found myself gaining traction on my goal of getting stronger without further injury. When I mentioned to him that I had just found an osteopath who seemed very promising, Tim immediately offered to coordinate care with him. I so appreciated his going the extra mile! I connected them via email, and they quickly came up with a joint approach that proved to be the turning point in my years of seeking a solution to my back pain. Within a few weeks, the pain went away and has stayed away. I continue to go in and work with Tim and his fabulous colleague, Jen, and am building even more of the strength and stability I was seeking to support the biking, walking, and scuba diving I love to do. Can't recommend Fostering Movement highly enough...skilled, professional, exceptionally knowledgable and experienced, and a lot of fun to be around!
We have worked with Tim Foster for a number of years. He is deeply knowledgeable about exercise and proper movement and he applies that knowledge in his classes. He knows just how to lead you so that your muscles are tired but they recover quickly. He watches his students closely to monitor their form and to instruct them how to get the most out of the exercises and how not to create an injury. He is an excellent coach, and lots of fun. It's a privilege to work with him!
5/19 - Here's a report about how by attending BEAST classes twice a week for three years, me (64) and my wife (71) tackled our latest home project - filling a 4'x8'x15" veggie box with soil, compost and peat for the upcoming garden season!
We had to move all the bags from the garage to the front yard. We lifted bag after bag into the car, each bag weighing 40-50 pounds. Then we unloaded the bags, stacking them beside the box, finally lifting again to empty and blend the mix in the box.
We estimated the total weight of the bags to be over 2000 pounds - and we moved that into the car, out of the car, into the box and mixed it.
Next day, no pain for either of us - and both of us have been treated for shoulder and back problems in the past. We know it is because of BEAST that we can move a TON of weight safely at our age!
This studio is the best. It has changed my life for the better. The people are wonderful. You don't have to be a fitness buff to be welcome here and benefit from the work.
This is a great studio! Tim is very knowledgeable, and great to work with, especially if you have injuries or other special needs. He is also fun and makes the work out entertaining. The classes are small and you get great one-on-one attention. I highly recommend it.
On the North Shore, so many studios seem to be filled with instructors who are moms with a hobby. (I say with with love!) At Fostering Movement you are getting the real deal. Tim is a true professional who puts his clients' first. Plus, he is very knowledgeable, attentive to individual needs/concerns, and truly enjoys what he does. Bonus: He's hecka fun to be around.
