Unique view of the city (if not a little smelly). Tour guides were informative and entertaining!

They're always pleasant. I've done the architectural tour in past as well. Hit groupon for it.
We had a great time! We did the afternoon historic kayak tour. It was the best way to see the city. Check-in was super fast and everything was so well planned out. Our guide, Adam, was so knowledgeable about chicago and was super helpful and personable. He made our experience great!
Only 4 starts cause no matter how good I never give 5 stars. With that being said , our group have a great time. Check in was fast , instructor was understandable , and the trip down the river was cool. Would I do again , yes. Would I recommend , yes ...
Loved it! Second time coming with one of my daughters (ages 13 and 25). Really fun and educational. Great bonding while being outdoors and active. Truly get a new perspective on the city.
A fun way to tour the river! Our guide was friendly and encouraging. The staff seem to work well as a team which contributed to an enjoyable experience. We took a 7pm evening tour... instruction was on land, so the 90 minutes on water was well spent paddling the river and taking short breaks to hear a bit of Chicago history from our guide. Thanks for a great Chicago experience!
I had a stellar time on the historic tour with Frank. He had lots of interesting stories to share and was a generally personable and knowledgeable guy. I loved all of the information about the architecture and the space to ask questions as we went through. I thought he did a great job and it was lots of fun! I would definitely recommend that others go in the morning like I did since the river is a little less congested. I had a great experience.
Great choice for a unique tour of Chicago! There are plenty of tours in Chicago, but not as cool from a kayaks view. I did this on a suggestion from a local and was so happy I did! It was a great way to get away from the crowds. Our 2 guides were fantastic and never once felt unsafe. I have kayak experience, but you don't need it. The guides will make sure you're having a good time. I highly recommend the evening tour ending with fireworks. Best seat to see the fireworks!
The people are nice and very informative on keeping you safe during your kayak fun. The Chicago River has a plethora of beautiful architecture and sites to see. We had a blast! Matt was a great tour guide. We were concerned due to cold weather/rain but the experience was amazing. So much fun and our tour guide further educated us about the history of Chicago. We would definitely recommend doing this to anyone who is adventurous and wants a different perspective of the city.
What a great trip! Sunset is a special time to be on the water. I paddle a lot on the SF Bay Area and this outing was truly special. Our guide Mike paddled the entire time backwards so he could regale us on the history and sights on the river. My wife was particularly impressed and was comfortable the entire time. Thanks for the experience, I highly recommend it.

First they'll launch you out onto the water and once everyone in your group has launched they'll tell you where to kayak to and then talk about all the history of the city. It's an awesome experience essentially dodging all the boat traffic. I will say that in the group tours there are a lot of people so it can get a little crowded. The place is a little confusing to get to since on their website they say to not use Google maps. I found that if you navigate on foot to the corner of Columbus and E. Whacker drive and just find the nearest stairs you'll be able to find it fairly easily. This is a must do activity when visiting and it's even something that you can do more than once and not be bored! Highly recommend.

Highly, highly recommend going on one of Urban Kayaks' tours! What a great way to experience the city from a different perspective! Our guide, Connor was great with his narratives and making sure our group stayed together and kept us out of harms way by communicating with the other larger boats travelling along the river to ensure our safe passage. I would definitely go back and do it again!
The staff were nice, the kayaks were good quality, the location is great. Unfortunately you need experience in kayaks to rent, otherwise you need to do the beginners tour. The short lesson was nice, but once we were on the water we were basically being babysat by the guide. That's probably nice for families, but my friend and I had canoeing experience and just wanted some tips to get started kayaking, not someone holding our hands.
I'm still giving 4 stars because now that I've done the beginner's tour I can rent without a guide.
The adventure of Kayking on the Chicago River in downtown Chicago was awesome. The guide kept us safe from all other water traffic and was informative, which was worth the extra money rather than just renting a kayak. They run a very smooth and efficient business. My only complaints: 1) The staff was very open and helpful when you approached them and asked a question, but they were not welcoming. I felt like an intruder in their space. 2) I am eternally grateful that the portable toilets were available; however, they require some serious attention.
Enjoyed the sunset tour very much. The temperature had cooled down and the boat traffic had died down. The guides made us feel safe and were informative. The length of the tour was right. It was challenging enough but not overly challenging. The views were fantastic on this cloudless day.
I did a Navy Pier fireworks kayak tour which was extremely enjoyable so I thought I'd try the Intro to Paddleboard at their new location (as of June 2018) in Monroe Harbor. The water inside the Harbor is extremely calm so it's a great place to learn. For those that already know how to SUP, you can start at Randolph St., go south to the Museum Campus, then come back up north. If you love the Chicago skyline you'll love it even more from here!
I had a great time on a trip lead by Connor! The paddling was pretty easy, the boats are very steady and the traffic on the river is easy to navigate. Connor did an awesome job, teaching us about some of the architecture and telling entertaining stories. Highly recommend this!
The coolest thing we did in Chicago! The sunset tour was awesome! Well worth the money. The tour guide was amazing. He tried to keep it fun while telling the history of Chicago. I definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Chicago!
Took a friend for the historic kayak tour. It was a lot of fun and the guides made sure we all stayed safe out on the river. If it's a blazing hot day, definitely bring a bottle of water. And to hear the tour guide, make sure you get close because it is loud out on the water and you don't want to miss any of the cool history they share.

Why wouldn't our tour guide mention "Trump's" name when talking about the building. Rather, it was referred to as "The big blue building named after someone....I dunno. We'll call it the Big Blue Building." Once again, personal politics falling into place during an event where I wanted to escape politics. I get the sarcasm, but it is a tour. How many people from out of town take your tour? Do they not have the right to know what is what? That's what we are paying for. Oh! But when the guide discussed a band that dumped its cargo of human waste on a boat from a bridge, he chucked and said "No lawsuit....the problem just disappeared." Don't know why he would not say "The Dave Matthews Band". Why? Was it because they are an opposing "Big Blue Building" band that did something completely against law, but did not want to shame them? Separate your politics from entertainment, Mr. Tour Guide. It's not about you and your beliefs, it is about entertaining the customers and educating them. Business is business. BTW....this "Big Blue Building" is Trump Tower taken by me. Ironically, the Dave Matthews Band was in town that night.
What an amazing experience! The urban kayak team is super high energy and made our kayaking experience an unforgettable one! HIGHLY recommended! Just an incredible experience and even better service.
This was a super fun experience for me and my collegues. I was tasked with finding a group activity for my sales team and thank Google I found Urban Kayaks. Everyone had a great time and, despite most of us being from the City, this was a totally new and unique adventure. We're definitely coming back with a larger group!
Pretty much had a private tour (I got brownie points for that because it was a first date). The weather was perfect and our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the city. It was a great experience and the perfect headliner for a great date.
My teen daughter and I had a wonderful time on our 1 hour intro to kayaking cruise.. It was really fun and the guide was informative. Beautiful views of the city from the river. I highly recommend this!
Everything was great and the tour guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. The only down part is that our lower backs were hurting after about 30 minutes on the kayaks. Other than that, it was enjoyable.
It was a different/nice perspective of the city.
The river is a bit congested.
The guides were nice but we had a bunch of people on our tour ... so unable to hear details of the history tidbits that were being given.

The St. Paddy's Day paddle exceeded my expectations. In short, it was awesome being on the green river in our green kayaks. This was my second time paddling with Urban Kayaks and it won't be my last.
Fun and safe! Guided tours are available for single and tandem kayaks. An expert helps you navigate through boat traffic. The tour takes you along the river and the guide is nice enough to wait for all your selfies.
Great place to rent kayaks. Prices were reasonable and folks are friendly.
First timer. Absolutely by far the best way to get some light exercise and see the amazing architecture along the river. Our guide Andy was great at telling us the history! If you have a hat I'd suggest wearing it. No shade unless you're passing under the bridge!
Arrived at 9am but no one appeared to be working here. One of the doors was unlocked and wide open, but no sign of any employees. Waited around until 9:15am and left. Disappointed I was unable to rent a kayak on this nice summer day.
Edit: Received a call later in the day explaining there was an all staff meeting happening at that time. I will try again another time
