1st time at this gym . Friendly staff & super clean . Large variety of equipment plus sauna & pool !

It's a good gym for the price of their membership. If you're looking for a place to have a good workout on good equipment this is it. Beyond that in regards to higher end amenities or ultra-cleanliness, this is not the right place. In summary, it's a good bang for the buck.

Great place to workout if you want to feel exempt from racking your weights and otherwise leaving absolutely anything anywhere for others to take care of!

I saw the cleaning staff hard at work in various areas of the gym, so I want to make it clear they are doing their jobs. Maybe some extra staff is needed to take care of the children that workout here.

I visited for the first time with a member and was told there were no complimentary first visits without a reservation. I am looking for a gym but since I had to pay $15 , I'll continue my search. It's not about what the gym has to offer, but it's about customer service. I can workout anywhere so what sets you apart, as a business, is customer service. I loved the location and set up but I'll pass.

Now that there is new management and mostly new staff I love working out here! Karen is awesome and I feel good about the Kids Club. I'm here daily and I've seen the transition. The facility is clean and everything works now.

Fantastic place to achieve your goals. So many
options available to use that no matter what level of fitness you have, there is always a good challenge. Locker rooms are clean and always stocked. Occasionally, the towels run out on the weekends but during the weekdays never. Leo the AGM was fantastic to work with while getting my membership. Definitely ask for him if you appreciate quality customer service.

Its a decent gym to workout in.
Staff dont particularly care or show to.
Please dont buy into their terrible personal training!!
Its fairly clean, a few nice people.
Usual franchised gym

Better location than the one in the loop. Great layout that makes it easy for workout buddies to split up with out spending a ton of time looking for each other.

I can only speak to the Canal location as I haven't attempted to work out at any others, but I have been extremely underwhelmed by my experience with this gym. Granted, I understand that expectations should be lower than say an FFC given the prince point but that doesn't really excuse the experiences I've had.

Not only did I feel "taken for a ride" bordering on lying right to my face when I first signed up as well as renewed (had to in order to not lose my bank of PT sessions), but each experience after seems to continue to degrade my opinion. There are always equipment issues (pool closed, machines not working, broken lockers, free weights and other workout essentials NEVER being in the right place, random people taking things from or working out in the personal training area, etc.) My first trainer was just awful which deterred me from coming for a while. I really liked the last 2 trainers I've worked with this month, but BOTH have left this month. And many of the policies are just not very "user friendly." (One example, I called to reschedule a training session due to being ill yet the policy requires 24 hour notice for a cancellation. (Clearly I can't actually control when I get sick.) Despite speaking with the front desk twice now, the session has still been deducted from my account and no one has contacted me to discuss as promised.) There are only a few trainers available to me via the app (as apparently you need to pay more for better trainers) and their availability is pretty bad. The only one regularly available is the first really awful one not surprisingly.

If you are contemplating this gym, I would recommend XSport as a similar price point but much better experience...or almost anywhere else.

When I joined the East Loop Chicago club, the upfront paid in full contract was the best deal (half the price than a month to month membership over the same amount of time). I was uncomfortable signing a 2 year contract, but the sales associate assured me that I would be able to cancel and receive a pro rata refund at any time if I wish to cancel.

I have since tried to cancel because the gym is over populated and under cleaned, but have been told that what the sales associate assured me of is not the case. I am now stuck at this gym for another year.

To the LA Fitness employees that may stumble upon this post, understand that these posts will not stop. You will see these on all platforms of social media. In addition, you now have a disgruntled member that has been forced to stay with your club for another year. Every day I go to the gym, more members will hear my story. I can also assure you that for every prospective customer I see walk through the doors, I will do my absolute best to make them second guess ever thinking about making LA Fitness their next club.

Good machines and location is convenient. The sauna here is usually not full and this is a plus for me as I have found that other locations are often sardine packed between 5-8pm. Customer service can be better. I have encountered a couple of staff there that make "smart" comments and are just unprofessional and then when politely confronted, they act like nothing is wrong. Be prepared to find fully naked people all over in the locker and sauna areas of this particular location.

I like this club. The new management and staff are working diligently in keeping the club clean and functional. They have upgraded the equipment and offer some fun and exciting classes. Keep up the good work.

I am really surprised by some of the poor reviews at this location in the South Loop. I chose this location due to the fact that it was close to Whole Foods and Michael's Crafts. I have never had a negative experience at this location. The women's showers and changing area are always cleaned and well-organized. The staff is very friendly, helpful and personable. The only downside is that you need to find an individual at one of the desks who will actually be able to show you how to use the equipment properly if you are a novice. If you ever have an issue with a bill, they are more than happy to work out a solution that will work for everyone. Another reason why I chose this facility was due to the quality and variety of their equipment and that they offer a swimming pool and classes with membership. Sometimes the equipment breaks down, but they usually address the malfunction appropriately. They also offer hand sanitizer and soap for you to wipe the equipment before and after use. I highly recommend this LA Fitness gym!

Front staff is very friendly! Locker room never smells good and needs constant cleaning in the bathroom/shower area. The facility itself it huge but they could use more free weights because during busy times you could be waiting awhile or you finally start and someone is already asking when you'll be done. Free parking under 2 hours is a huge benefit!

Is the gym worth all these stars maybe not but they definitely don't deserve the rating they have. They're open the latest out of all the locations. Facilities are cleaned regularly. I will say equipment is often scattered about but the staff and the front desk are friendly! Never too crowded, group fitness instructors are all great and you can validate your parking or free Street parking after 10! Canal Street LA fitness is my favorite location!!

They lie to you on your face that it is not 6 month contract and make you do initial next to it and when time come to cancel, I had to follow up 4 time in person and on phone to do the cancellations. And they charged me for full 6 months.

This location is exactly what i need. Its convenient, and the facility is amazing. The staff there is excellent and they take the time make sure you are comfortable and . I would recommend anyone here. Jose took care of me and also set my friend up with guest pass. He took the time to listen to my personal fitness goals that i wanted to achieve and gave me direction for my workouts. Thanks Jose!

I already have my own gym membership but I really wanted to see what LA Fitness had to offer since my own friend and trainer takes clases there. I called the night before to this location and ask them if I would be able to do a class with my friend and if I needed to pay for it I would.. I signed up for the guest pass and was told that I wouldn't need to pay to take the class and I could just come on in. I got to the location 10 minutes ahead of the class time that I wanted to do with my friend and the person there took a long time showing me the facilities even though I had let him know that I wanted to take a class with my friend and then at the end of the tour I was told that I would not be able to take the class with my my friend but he still wanted to look over packages and at that point I just simply left because there was no point for me to pay for the class when it was already a half hour in. First of all it's very difficult for me to go somewhere by myself without the kids and I was looking forward to training with my friend for once at her gym. It was a time wasted I did not have. It seemed that the staff didn't listen to a word that I said on the phone or in person.

Horrible customer service. I overlooked the overwhelmingly negative reviews this location has on Google and Yelp in favor of the enticing price and all their facilities offered for that price.

I was wrong to do so.

About halfway through my first year of membership, I changed my membership to eliminate the guest pass. This cut my monthly rate in half. I was told I could get rid of the guest pass at any point I wanted to, but their team made it very difficult to do so. When I originally signed up with LA Fitness, their employee told me I would be charged a one-time account initiation fee, followed by my standard monthly rate of $39.99. When I changed my plan to get rid of the guest pass, a different employee had me sign another contract to permit the change. I was told the only charges going forward would be the agreed-upon $19.99 per month for a one-person membership.

Today I was charged my usual $19.99 fee. I'm sure you could imagine my surprise when, several hours later, I was charged an additional fee of $49.99. I called the store to speak to a representative about this issue. She informed me that it is an annual renewal fee, and any inquiries should be directed to their corporate number that deals with membership services. Membership services explained that, even though their employees failed to inform me of this charge, it was in the contract and is therefore a valid charge. I asked if they felt it was appropriate to charge me for a fee their team failed to make me aware of. They responded saying it is a valid charge that cannot be refunded. After inquiring about canceling my membership, I asked if this $50 fee is worth losing a customer with a paid membership. They would not directly answer the question. I told them I would highly recommend hiring staff competent enough to inform members of every charge they would have to pay when patronizing LA Fitness.

If you are looking for a company that will be up front with you about charges and offers decent customer service...don't go here.

One of the dirtiest gyms I have ever seen. There was toilet paper floating in the lap pool! The renovation addressed none of the problems. The only thing that changed was the floor in the weight and cardio areas. Still filthy.

Clean, calm atmosphere which is refreshing. Not overly packed and great amount of machines to use. Shout out to Isaac for explaining the ins and outs and making sure my boyfriend and I had a positive experience!

Recently had new improvements and renovations at this location that makes a world of difference. Better lighting, newer equipment, and great staff. The hours are great (5 am till midnight) on basically most days of the week and you get two hours of parking free in the attached lot. Had fantastic help with a guest pass with a staff member, Jesse, and I'd highly recommend coming and taking a look!

The worst gym I've ever been to. Asked for cancel my family plan 2times. The second time I asked her make sure all of us three cancel. because we'll move to other place. The girl said she already canceled all three. But today when I checked my account LA fitness CHARGE AGAIN!!!!!! I really don't want go there for the 3rd time. .....What a HORRIBLE GYM n WORST SERVICE!!!!!! DO NOT Go HERE..

Most filthy gym Ive ever been to in 25yrs. Always...im mean Always garbage on the floor and dont even think about using the bathroom without sanitation precautions! Brought in new management and a lot of new equipment, but they cant seem to keep the place remotely fricking clean!

THIS GYM IS CLOSED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 9TH 2017!

I just drove to it from the north side and I was a little irritated that it was closed. No biggie though.

As for the gym itself (when it was open) it's an alright gym, some of the staff could use some customer service lessons but most of them are ok. I appreciate the racquetball courts. Yeah, that's about all I got! (LOL!) I look forward to the improvements when they're done remodeling.

Went with a friend and though front desk staff were friendly enough hence the one star - the cleanliness of the gym has to improve. The women's change room is horrendous; i understand its a higher traffic gym but I've been to plenty of LAs where, despite high traffic, it is always maintained properly. Sarah, the pilates instructor at Canal, you need an attitude adjustment darling. The way you spoke to my friend and I and used your fingers to gesture us out of your clearly very popular pilates class (2ppl) was rude and condescending. Be better Sarah.

The worst gym I've ever been to too. We were signed up with a family plan, but we always had trouble to get into the gym. We were told that we had to show up with my son. But one time, even my son showed up, because he is less than 17, he doesn't have a formal ID, we still had trouble to get in... This happened a couple of times. We always were being told that they had put some notes in the system and everything should be fine. But no, after 9 months, we still had the same issue. Now the sales person who worked with us is gone for good. We were told someone from corp would give us a call on Monday. Now it is 2:12pm CST, no one called us yet. So we tried to call the general manager, Daniel, we talked to two other people, so far still put on hold.... What a terrible GYM and worst service. DO not go HERE.......

Follow up -- Just called South Loop location 3 times and finally got transferred to Corp line. Like we expected, a similar sales phone call again.... Also we were told that Robert is still working there, just a different location. So be careful at any other LA Fitness locations....
