I must say the in-class coaching was great in relation to 80% of the coaches. The majority of coaches did a good job critiquing and motivating me to improve my form and learn the olympic lifts.
Here are some more detailed points about the gym before joining.
Overall Fitness: About 2 months in I was in the best shape of my life. Never had the stamina like I did 2 months in. Check in 1.5 years later... I have gained weight, my PR's have decreased... For paying a premium ($195 a month) I should have a coach checking in at least once a month to evaluate my goals, and this did not and has not happened at all. Overtime progress will diminish which shouldn't happen at a Crossfit gym. There is a lack of personal touch and the coaches focus a lot on the people that do power lifting, rather than the money earners which are the normal class goers. So overall felt neglected.
Olympic lifting: I went to a specific Olympic lifting class once and never went again for a couple reasons detailed below:
1. The class felt extremely cliquey, almost as if I didn't belong because I wasn't born being able to snatch 185 lbs.
2. Mind you this was my first time attending class, and the coach in the class told me I was standing in the wrong place at least three times because I walked in front (mind you this was 15-20ft) of someone that was doing a lift. In class! Not a competition, we talkin about class (In Allen Iverson voice). So ridiculous I had to laugh. I get the whole safety thing, but this was not in relation to safety at all as I was well clear of that standard.
