I HIGHLY recommend this yoga oasis so close to downtown, yet just far enough away (8 short blocks from State and Chicago) to help get you in a reflective, recuperative mood.
As you approach the studio on the 2nd floor, a wonderful fragrance greets your senses. Breathe it in, and know that you will feel peace and wellbeing.
The warm jewel tones and earthen palette don't feel like a fitness place, but rather as a welcoming parlor, evoking a timeless sense of home.
But how does the yoga rate?
In February, I had a pinched nerve in my neck, extending down my right arm. I had gone to a chiropractor, but felt the stretching that yoga practices would be healing.
The experience greatly surpassed my expectations! Ada and Cara were sensitive to my reservations about having never tried yoga, introducing me to the yoga practice, ensuring I did not attempt any poses which would cause any discomfort. These fit, capable, talented instructors worked with me to slowly and yet progressively introduce more challenging yoga practices, to increase my flexibility, strengthen my core gradually, and replace the chiropractor. The savings from the copay alone made this a great decision for me.
But there is more!
Coming to the studio on the cusp of a divorce, focusing on the practice of yoga, with the caring yet intention-filled direction of every session, I was able to build a reservoir of peacefulness, serenity, and mental healing. This space was restorative, and I have seen it with others who joined me during the practice in my first month.
In addition to the individual attention in the yoga sessions, during which the instructors shine, the reiki session is well worth trying, at least once.
Despite feeling a scant bit of scepticism regarding the potential tangible benefit of the reiki session, I decided to lower my guard and try it. The result? A definite directed wave of energy, a sense of wellbeing, and the release of stress which was hindering my confidence as I was adjusting to change in my life. I did this prior to a job interview, and I truly believe that Ada and Cara each have a gift in this area, which resulted in a quick callback for a second interview.
Reiki, I can now say, was very healing for me, and it is a non invasive method worth your time. Your body and mind may well thank you!
If you are undecided, just give them a try for a week, or perhaps a month. Like a great novel, it may take a few pages, but then the dividends of sticking with it will become apparent.
And you may even make some nice new friends!
