REALLY fun and welcoming environment. Even if you're a hella brand new baby to BJJ, John and the other students in the class will make sure you are fully and safely participating. Highly recommend if you wanna mix up your routine or start learning BJJ!
Great BJJ gym with a regular crowd - the instructors, owner and members are very welcoming to newcomers and beginners. Cool vibes too - I signed up to train there. The subscription model is non-predative: month based only.
Great gym for all experience levels! So far I've learned a lot. They have a great arsenal of different techniques.
I signed up for the 7 day free trial and had a great experience! The instructors were very helpful and patient as it was my first time. I look forward to going back and recommend to anyone looking to try out the sport.
CSG is a great place to train. I was able to fit in classes around my schedule, learn from John and the other instructors, and have fun. Everyone has a great attitude and is there to learn. The no contract is great too for my situation of having to be out of town for a month!
This dojo is fantastic! If you want to learn Martial Arts under knowledgeable guidance this is the place to come. You will find yourself in a friendly surrounding where everybody help to progress each other.
I used the free 7 day offer on their website to check out the gym. I've never done any martial arts before, but the instructors and students made it very welcoming--there's clearly a sense of community at this gym. The JitFit class was a great way to get some cardio in, while building strength and agility. I recommend trying it!
Here you can expect to find a friendly, diverse group of people who are serious about their training. You'll get a solid workout, expert instruction, and plenty of drilling/sparring experience (at your own pace, whenever you're ready). And you'll leave feeling great. All your stress and insecurity will have been sweated out in the past hour. Trust me on the value of martial arts/combat sports, as taught here, for your mental health and even your interactions with other people.
Compared to other gyms I've trained at, particularly larger ones or those affiliated with big names, I find that you receive a lot more attention here. Though training can be intense, I would describe the environment as friendly, safe and down to earth.
They offer a free trial that lasts one whole week. Check it out, you've got nothing to lose and plenty to gain.

Great place to learn and train. Nick was very welcoming and provided great instruction. Everyone in the gym were great to be around. I had fun and learned. If you were traveling like me or live in the Chicago area I would recommend giving Chicago School of Grappling a shot. You will enjoy it.

Excellent experience. Very welcoming. I enjoy training here. Thanks everyone
This school is one of the most welcoming gym I ever been to. All the instructors are approachable and very attentive to your goals and needs. This also extends to all of the members of the school as well. Everyone is willing to help and explain what you don't understand or want to improve upon. A couple of months ago, I told one of the owner and the instructor that I want to lose weight, and he was very open and acceptable to the idea. He reached out to help me personally to help me achieve my goal. Everyday, he would personally text or check up on me to see how I'm doing and to keep me on track. There is almost no commitment on your part. You can cancel your membership anything and come back anything. Everyone is very understanding that you, like them, are human, and you have you own situations going on. Most of the members are working adults and college students, but there are classes specially for women and children. The owners are always looking to accommodate to what would help the members best. The rotations of instructors are very beneficial in learning various moves and styles from a different perspectives.

I can't recommend Chicago School of Grappling enough... The instructors -- and everyone else in the gym -- goes above and beyond in making sure you feel at home and learn great jiu-jitsu.
Great school! Teachers give detailed instructions and are very patient with beginners. Classmates are welcoming and supportive. Great place to learn new skills and meet new people!

Chicago School of Grappling is one of the most welcoming, instructive gyms I've ever been to. Besides just being a top notch grappling talent, Nick Cimm is one of the best and most patient instructors in Chicago. If you're interested at all in Jiu Jitsu, I highly suggest you come by soon.
Great gym, very knowledgeable trainers and everyone here are really friendly. Probably the only gym with the most well rounded program in chicago. 3 words : BEST GYM EVER.
Since joining Chicago School of Grappling about a year and half ago, I've learned so much and have been in the best shape of my life! The gym is great for students of any background and experience. The coaches are awesome and really work with you and help push you to the next level. The students are very friendly and make you feel welcomed. I would highly recommend joining and trying out this gym if you are looking for a great workout and to improve your MMA/BJJ skills!
Great place to learn and train jiujitsu and other martial arts, it has a relaxed atmosphere with great professors and coahes teaching every class.
Being a student of UIC, the school is very close to campus and with it's student rates it is also very affordable. The instructors are clear in their instruction and friendly. The students are also just as welcoming! Never did I ever feel someone was out to get me. CSG is friendly filled with laughs and good times yet teach you no nonsense jiu jitsu!
Chicago School of Grappling is a great gym with kind welcoming people and is well worth a chance for anyone curious about martial arts.
Just two weeks in, I feel like I already improving in Jiu Jitsu and my ability to fight. Learning martial arts can be intimidating at first, but the welcoming spirits of the teachers and students make all the difference.
Also, as a woman I haven't felt in slightest bit uncomfortable, the attitude is truly about making sure people are kind and respectful to each other. Zero tolerance for anything else.
I would recommend this gym to anyone, no matter the skill level. And the first week of all of their classes are free! There is no reason not to see it for yourself.
I was looking for a gym to focus primarily in Jiu Jitsu since I was doing MMA for about half a year, this was my first choice and I love it (Joined Jan 2018). I signed up alone and was nervous, most gyms do not have a lot of females train but they made me feel comfortable and I go at my own pace. Any questions I have, have been answered in detail and I can tell everyone is very knowledgeable. I am looking forward to grow within Chicago School of Grappling. Side note they have Womens only Friday classes. Helps a lot!
The instructors are great! The owner John is helpful, intelligent, and knows what he is doing!
In the beginning of August i was trying to look for a MMA Gym in Chicago to learn how to do BJJ ( Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). While looking around, one particular place caught my eye and made me feel like this was the place to be. Got off of the Racine Blue line and walked about two-three blocks towards the UIC Pavilion. My first class was JitFit ; a combination of Jiu Jitsu drills with basic conditioning exercises in the mix. It literally made me sweat my butt off. Afterwards John ( Owner and Trainer) persuaded me to do BJJ afterwards. I was pretty hesitant since i felt like i lost all my stamina but something inside told me to KEEP GOING. After that class, I gained a good sense of confidence and eventually I started to go almost everyday. They start you off with a seven day trial to check out their other classes with other skilled trainers. Beside BJJ they have Kickboxing, Boxing, Wrestling , Women's and kids grappling 101 and they do a free mat session on the weekends. The vibe is very family-like and everyone is there to help you succeed. The motto of the gym is keep trying and fail to learn. Such a perfect motto for place that motivates you to be your better self!
These guys are awesome! They create an atmosphere of respect and fun! Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good, friendly roll. (I'm from Detroit and was visiting so I stopped in for a class)
My Roomate trains there every week. He loves grappling there.
