Anyone know why they closed?

The staff are friendly and welcoming and are all role models as they work harder than anyone.

A hidden gem! Free parking with validation, towel service, steam room, sauna -- the locker rooms are some of the nicest I've experienced. Good classes, large weight room, never a wait for treadmills, etc. and there are TVs on every machine.

First Webster Athletic club changed their points program policy to double the amount of points that were required for a guest pass. Then they completely abandoned their points program and made the points worthless for which I had worked hard for. I discussed this ad nauseam with their customer service to which they had no solutions. It seems to me this company does not treat customers fairly and punishes them for poor planning on their part. It would nice to find an honest gym that doesn't use abusive billing practices and cares about helping people with their fitness goals. Chicago Athletic clubs is NOT that company.

In addition I had made several suggestions to them about broken items which were never fixed. (shower handles that are labeled wrong for hot/cold), lights that were out in the steam room. It seems this gym really could use some new management.

Do not recommend giving your money to shady business.

Chicago Athletic Club at Webster Place is a sub optimal facility. Most of the facility is located in the basement--so you don't see the light of day and the locker room was filthy. Also, look a the other comments about membership paperwork--they are horrible about cancelling--where you can't do in person and must be done over the phone w long wait an then penalty on top. Horrible gym. I would suggest going to Mid Town--

Good gym at a good price that I used for about a year and a half. Unfortunately when the time came to cancel my membership the experience turned very sour. This is one of those gyms that competes very well on price by offloading the customer service aspect of their company to a less than top notch, 3rd party service that will make your life miserable.

I signed a one year commitment, made it well past a year, and then called to cancel when I moved out of the area - pretty standard stuff. Of course, when you call they need 30 days notice to cancel, so they will always get you for one extra month payment unless you call 2 months before you actually need the membership to end. I expected nothing less from a chain that aggressively competes on price, so that was fine. They charge me for the extra month, and I think we are all set.

My bank ended up sending me a new debit card, and sure enough I start getting calls from "ABC Financial" a month later that they're having trouble running my card (which they should not be doing) for my membership at WPAC. Its one of those automated systems that pretends that they are a real person and gives you an 800 number to call back. I ignore a couple calls (they will call you 5 times a day from this automated system) and then finally try the 800 number and the system is a mess. It is difficult to speak to a real person (they want you to use the automated system entirely and just pay them), and once you get one they have no idea what is going on with your account.

The person I finally spoke with insisted that I did not cancel my account properly, and we needed to start all over again with a new debit card and 30 days notice with one more monthly dues charge. I refused and finally convinced her to just cancel my account. Another week or so goes by, and today I receive an email saying ABC Financial is going to send me to collections if I don't update my card info. We'll see how long it takes me to resolve the latest.

Long story short, in an effort to maximize profits this company has outsourced customer service to an agency that is frankly terrible at the service portion. It's unfortunate, because I thought this gym was pretty decent for the cost, but lack of customer service and aggressive pricing and cancelation policies make me question whether it was worth joining in the first place at all.

Tricky accounting and bad customer service make this a less than positive gym experience. Be careful with what you sign, even if it's month to month, they are not looking for members at the gym they are looking for your money.

First, the club itself is okay. The locker rooms are very nice and I could always easily access what machines/weights I wanted. However it is fairly small still, especially the weights section, and can get tight in peak time.

Second, if you have any dance/yoga background, do not waste your time on the classes. I took the hip hop class once and the choreography made zero sense nor did it flow from one move to the next. I tried a yoga class next and it was the weirdest. The woman started by singing which is cool, I guess. But there was no real flow. Also, she didn't really show the poses, just said the names which could be confusing for a beginner.

Finally, do not join this gym if you love your first born child because you basically have to give it to them to cancel your membership. I was finally able to cancel after talking to 4 separate people on the phone and 3 over email. They are super ambiguous on what you need to provide as documentation to cancel and conveniently claim that whatever you provide isn't sufficient enough, even though the other person told you it was. (Note: the membership is handled by a third party, but receives direction from the club in terms of what you are able to provide to cancel. Read your agreement VERY carefully. The documentation they ask for is not listed in their cancellation clause so that they can keep it ambiguous and open to interpretation so they can do whatever it takes to keep you paying for another month.)

Great club. Very clean great sauna, steam and plenty of classes and machines. Love the free covered parking!

A beautiful new club with all the equipment that you will ever need. They also have some of the best classes in Chicago

I really like this gym. I workout 4-6 times a week. I use the free weights, machines and do some classes they offer. The classes for the most part are awesome, however, I have had 2 separate classes with 2 different instructors that were horrible. All of my other class/instructors have been positive experiences. The staff is really nice and friendly and the gym is very clean! Another bonus is that it's not too busy or crowded yet (since it's so new). I would definitely recommend the gym.
