I am really surprised by the several negative reviews here. I recently moved to the neighborhood and was going to be needing a gym that was close enough by that I could walk to, especially during the winter time. I stopped in and found the staff to be very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I am a kidney patient and a cancer survivor, and I needed a gym that had the main equipment that my hospital gym has in addition to newer things that will help me in other areas of my well being. They had all the equipment and the monthly rate is a little less than my former gym. I did not smell any odor in the gym, as it seems to be well ventilated and they have ample supplies of towels and a fresh-smelling cleanser to use on the equipment. To me, that is the members job to wipe down the equipment before and after use, and I am sure many do not, but that is not the club's fault. I noticed the staff cleaning the floors and bathrooms when I was there. It is a good-sized gym, but it is always best to go inside and see this for yourself. Even on very busy days, there is always enough equipment and space to complete your work out routine. And, although I do not have one myself, they do offer personal training sessions at a reasonable price. I have been in the gym when they were training individuals and they appear to be very good. I compare their skills to my hospital physical therapists so I consider myself to have pretty high standards of what they should be doing. I am very happy with this gym and try to make a trip there 4 to 5 days a week to do my circuit. I highly recommend the Charter Fitness on South Ashland Avenue!
