A place I frequent to ease my mind. Has lots of equipment that is useful for training purposes. Open 24/7
Xsport is a horrible run gym. Rude desk staff. Don't waste your money joining.
Love coming to this location! They really helped me out today! Super clean and always stocked with towels!
Smells like microwaved broccoli and is filthy
Cleanest gym I been to in the Chicago area. Very spacious even during busy hours.
Friendlier staff than at other locations. 2 floors with 4 different workout areas (aside from fitness class rooms)- so lots of equipment for whatever you're trying to do. For the deal you can get on the membership... Idk where you can get a better deal
Less crowded compared to one on East Lake view
It is open 24/7 so when you feel like it go and get a good workout
The bad reviews are accurate. The men's locker room stinks. The channels on the cardio machines are spotty. The morning staff is super nice but the afternoon staff are rude people.
They will screw you with the membership costs. I joined many years ago and can get to any location with a guest no problem. My gf (frequently guest) decided to join and got wild fluctuations in pricing and options. After buying a membership, she tried to cancel and it took three weeks as they first never seem to have a manager on staff, and then make you talk to corporate which is never a direct phone call.
In Chicago, there are too many cheaper options that require less annoyance and more expensive options with more robust service, that putting up with Xsport makes little sense.

This place is totally scam, money eater! I signed up in January for a month only and Khalil ( front desk employee at Xsport) acted like he is helping me with all paper works. He said I should pay $1 on that day, and the rest they charge at the end of the month.
They were not supposed to charge me for no more than a month, but they kept charging me till May, 2018. I requested to dispute that charge, but they came up with their hidden written contract. Even though I spoke to Khalil in person explaining that I was coming to gym for a month. He handed me the false, fraudelent contract. SHAME ON YOUR GYM!!!!

I had a great time while I was a member of the gym, I enjoyed the classes and the personal training I received. However if I would have known how ridiculous the cancellation process was going to be then I never would have signed up. I went to end my membership on a Thursday around 4:30 pm but was told I had to come back when a manager was there. This same thing happened 2 more times. I finally was there when a manager was there and filled out a form and specifically asked if there was anything else I needed to take care of. They said no you are good to go and I went on my way. Until the following month I noticed 2 new charges on my account from the gym. When I called the XSport front desk they told me they had to email corporate because they didn't have access to anything but I would hear from them in 2 days. I never heard back so I ended up calling only for them to tell me I had to contact corporate. I sat on the phone waiting for 30 minutes and never got an answer but tried again this afternoon. The woman I spoke to was very pleasant and refunded my account but this never should have happened. This whole process was ridiculous, took up way to much time, and judging by the other reviews, this is extremely common.

Decent enough equipment, you get what you pay for. I give it one star for its egregious cancellation policy and the poor service I received in the process. I called to cancel my membership, as I moved out of the neighborhood. I was told I needed to come to the gym in person, Monday through Friday, to complete a "cancellation interview". That in and of itself is ludicrous. I showed up to do so, and had to wait over 25 minutes for the "manager" to assist me. He offered no apology for the delay. And they gave one last parting gift in the form of a $10 cancellation fee. I would highly recommend against anyone joining XSport. You can truly do much much better.

Socially inept, rude, and pushy workers. I walked in with a 7-day pass and an hour later was being forced to listen to sales pitches charging me $600 dollars prospectively. I have never been disrespected at a gym before, but the guy trying to upsell me asked if i had ever done a squat before, if I had ever worked out before, if I had stretch marks after losing some weight, etc. REALLY? Incredibly pushy guy, I told him to stop showing me the higher priced options, I don't need to pay $200/month so I can go to an xport across the state/country. He told me to let him finish, then brought a manager over so they could double-team me and try putting pressure on me together. They asked how important it was for me to go to the gym. I told them very. They said "are you sure?" multiple times and implied I don't care about my health if I don't put money down. Disgusting. Cardinal Fitness now has my money! No "I'm sorry!" email or call is going to change how horrible this service was.
The showers are always dirty and smell bad, a lot of the machines are broken, and when you sign up they don't tell you that a lot of the locations are "Express" or "Premium" locations. The express locations don't have towels and are a lot smaller, and the "Premium" locations require you to pay $10 per more per location and aren't any fancier than the normal gyms. This company is a scam and the people that work there get commission and are always trying to sell you more stuff. The parking is very limited and not enough time to get a good work out in (less than 2 hours). You're better off going to Planet Fitness and paying $10 a month and bringing your own towel.
DO NOT do gym there. All bad ratings are very true. From the first moment they manipulated like words about benefits of the academy, they make you understand what is NOT TRUE. And probably they will charge you wrong and if they charge you "wrong" they will not give you your money back because of the system, contract and will put a thousand things in the way to get around the situation. I talked there more than twice and it did not help at all. I have not been there for a month and I'm canceling because all I've had is loss of money. What a deception. And they still look at you with mock faces.
Best xsport by far! Jeanette, Khalil and Antonio are all so super nice and helpful!
They will charge you after months after you leave the gym, then not respond to your numerous inquiries about why. The steam room smelled like mold and the basketball court was filthy. Its a low cost gym with low cost service. I wouldnt trust touching a weight. very unclean.
Its a decent gym, and maybe im just spoiled by the one on broadway, but its like a maze. took me 15 minutes to realize there was an upstairs where you can do abs. some of the equipment was broken as well. its ok for a short workout.
After visiting the state street location, I was set on cancelling my membership but decided to give Xsport one last shot at this location. This is surprisingly one of the nicer gyms I've been to. There is plenty of space - 4 weight rooms with all different equipment. I haven't been here during peak hours but even then, I don't imagine one would feel cramped here. Paid street and free garage parking across the street.
So far I've had a great experience at the Lakeview/ Boystown location and the Ashland location. I take my husband anytime I want without any hastle and he doesn't have a membership. I love hearing"PREMIUM GUEST" When We check in. I've never had a pushy experience ever. The staff is very nice to me all the time. I did want to downgrade my membership to one club for the $14.99 special for me and my husband, but after reading all the reviews about membership scamming I'll probably just get him a membership elsewhere.
Much nicer then the one downtown, cleaner, more machines are working, staff is friendlier. New machines and better variety.
Would give zero stars if that was an option. Do not go to this gym. My girlfriend signed up for a membership where she can bring a guest for an additional cost. After a few months she realized that she was getting charged for two memberships. When contacting corporate they claimed I had signed up as well and sent me the documents to prove it. The documents sent to me had been forged and my girlfriends credit card information had been put on there as well. They refunded the money but it was a pain in the ass because everyone we had talked with to make the situation right was rude until they realized they were in the wrong.
Great gym most staff is helpful and a clean facility some machines could use some maintenance but nothing too serious.
100% recommend this gym. Been a member for about 3 years and have nothing but good things to say. Great staff, 24hrs, brand new renovations, and very reasonable membership rates.
DO NOT BRING YOUR GUESTS HERE! The staff who check in guests and sign new members are INCREDIBLY pushy and rude to their guests. I've even witnessed guests being forced to wait arbitrarily long times to check in, only to be pressured into signing up if they didn't want to wait. What kind of sales pitch is that??? Don't members already pay extra so we can bring a guest? A bunch of sleazy car salesmen in here...
It's a shame, because this is a great facility. It's a huge space, plenty of room to work out, and I like their equipment. They even have deadlifting pads - I don't think any other Xsport in the city have them! Plenty of benches and power racks. The second floor is also beautiful! Great place to work out.
This is a five-star gym with one-star staff.
I was surprised by all of the negative reviews as it relates to the gym. For the price, this is a good gym. The classes (which are an additional membership fee) are very good and the equipment is just as good as other gyms. They also have my favorite machine the lateral elliptical.
I called to get pricing over the phone and found it confusing. I was able to go online and find prices that were less expensive and more straight forward.
Decent size, generally enough equipment to where you don't have to wait/work in with others. Some staff members actually exceed expectations, work with you to fulfill needs or answer questions, very friendly. All equipment is in above average condition. Has decent air circulation downstairs, upstairs can differ. Probably the best Xsport location in Chicago city limits. Still has room for improvement (i.e. needs more cleaning on constant basis, staff is busy so not always present) Has parking, that's a plus.
Facilities are clean, easily accessible, convenient, and there are a lot of options. With that being said, management is pushy and there seems to be a lack of communication between the staff members.
Another friend of mine bought a year with the gym and got a year free. I asked about this after I already paid for a year and was told that I would get a year free if I sign up for 140$ a month personal training in addition to the $30 I'm already paying a month. The fees are inconsistent and I finally understand what all of the commercials making fun of gyms like this are talking about. There is a joining fee, there is a card activation fee, the monthly fee. It ends up being ridiculous. I miss my snap fitness membership of no money down and 24$ a month.
Moral of the story: read the fine print and know what you are signing up for! It's completely my fault, but I've decided that I don't like gyms that are run this way.
My experience here just keeps getting worse and worse. They had a sign up that said it was a special for today for only $24.50. The sign was up, I took a picture of it, inquired about it and they said the deal was for yesterday only. The sign only said TODAY ONLY. They did not specify any dates so how was I supposed to know that it was for yesterday. This location is just ridiculous. I had my friends sign up at this location because the person seemed so nice. A couple months later, we all got charged for random personal training session for hundreds of dollars worth. It took so much time and effort calling corporate to solve this issue. They finally resolved it but it just wasn't worth the time and frustration.
I see that this location has gotten a lot of negative reviews. I'm not really sure why. It's clean and well maintained with new machines and a wide variety of them. The classes are fun and offered at different times. Bill is the best yoga teacher ever!
I don't know why there are so many terrible reviews on here. These guys are GREAT. Totally helpful, totally hooked me up at consultation, and they're some of the friendliest people I've ever met! I can text them when I have fitness/membership questions, and they always say hi and check in when they see me around. Plus the facility is really nice and has fantastic equipment. I love it here and I wouldn't have it any other way! The prices are super great too- and the student discount didn't hurt!
