I came to Tommaso after ~3 years of more or less being a total couch potato. Prior to that, I'd had experience with various martial arts, but had never really picked up any knowledge/experience with 'normal' workout strategies that would let me be able to self-train at a gym. I tried a few 'group class' locations and only managed to 1) injure myself and 2) realize I was so far out of shape I'm not even sure we were in the same state, much less zipcode.
When I looked into personal trainers, I relied on ratings. Tommaso's was encouraging, so I took the plunge.
Let me say this: The man earns his stars.
In the four months I've been with him, I have:
1) Gone from being breathless after a flight of stairs to being able to go up three flights with only minor winding, which settles down in under 15 seconds. (This, for the record, was my three month goal. Filling out his paperwork is time-consuming, but he *will* read it and hold you to it if you put in the work).
2) Lost 25 lbs.
3) Gone down a size in all forms of clothing.
It happens in the gym, sure: Tommaso is all too happy to push you (but not TOO hard, just hard enough) while you're with him, and those 45 minute sessions will do a lot for your strength and co-ordination and balance.
Where he really gets you back in line is the nutrition.
Somewhere around the third week, he had me start food journals. We looked over those after I had a few weeks laid down, and he started to make suggestions. Some areas where I could cut; some areas where I could substitute. I've followed those instructions 90% or so of the time (no one is perfect) and I am convinced that even if I never stepped foot in the gym again and never had another session, the new eating habits he instilled would eventually get me close to a healthy weight.
There is only one complaint, and it's more of a challenge than anything, that I have. Tommaso is a man with many clients with many interests, and that sometimes means trips. Many of those are a week (or several) long, and this leaves no opportunity to use the facilities. That said, just pick up a class pass book for another gym, or use the home workouts he gives you, and you can get through; it's just harder, because you have to rely on self-discipline and improvised equipment (if you don't have your own weights at home).
