This was my first ever crossfit experience and I have to say it has been awesome! This review will address some of the fears I had about getting into crossfit and some unexpected things I found through UAve Crossfit,
Crossfit promotes bad form for reps -
I had read and watched videos berating crossfit in general for its focus on reps and not on form. If you're a newcomer (probably even experienced), the coaches stress on form and scaling the weight based on form, rather than pushing for load. This has been extremely helpful for a novice like me. There are clinics to help with form and the coaches are always approachable.
Location -
For a university student like me without a car, going to crossfit boxes in Urbana-Champaign wasn't feasible due to time and distance. UAve is walking distance from most student apartments and that's been extremely convenient.
Price -
For someone living off a student stipend, I was wary of the monthly cost. With the discounts available and my own regularity, I find that it is extremely worth it for the health benefits (better sleep, better conditioning and more!).
Community -
I've never been an extremely social person and yet I've met some amazing people so far. There are people from all backgrounds and ages. Everyone I have met so far have been friendly and a blast to workout with! There's no real feeling of self-consciousness and its easy to focus and have fun in a group workout.
Sorry for the long review! Hope it is helpful.
