I signed up for a membership and went for my assessment two days later. Janelle, the GM, is so friendly, to the point I had no worries about anything. She was professional and told me everything straight up. The next day I went in for a quick jog and stopped by the smoothie counter for a lock, was told the counter was closed on Sundays and I asked the employee if there was anywhere I could buy a lock. He tells me CVS. It was a little rude, but not terrible advice.
Now, today on my assessment day I arrive to see that he will be giving me my assessment. He makes a comment about me being a few minutes late, 3 minutes. He tells me it'll take a year to lose ten pounds and goes into some nonsense about how coffee is much more dangerous than it used to be.
I'm not using his name because I think he's a nice guy, he clearly knows his fitness knowledge and can back it up, but what I didn't like was how he was using a fear-based sales technique to sign me up for personal training sessions. Also, the coffee thing was just kind of odd and unnecessary. Overall my impression of him was that he needs more training when it comes to interacting with a potential client. He didn't know I was a brand new member when he made that CVS comment the day before and it just set a bad tone for my experience today. It's so important to always remain professional, especially when trying to sell weekly training sessions that would add up to over $3,000 annually. I left wanting to cancel my brand new membership.
Also, he was wearing boat shoes...gym attire?
