The staff is very friendly and the equipment is in good condition. I have rarely seen anything marked out of order. Staff could do a better job of making sure equipment isn't left in the walkways where someone can fall over it.
The ladies locker room could use some work. The water pressure is almost non-existent, and the showers need to be cleaned more frequently. The shower floor shouldn't already be slimy at 8am.
My experience at Crunch Channel-side was very refreshing. The staff was very cordial in their explanations on how the facility worked. Their explanation of rates and amenities way clear. The facility is very clean and the staff members are very friendly and professional. The facility contains a variety of weight machines and freeways that allows you to work various areas of the your body in order to achieve the necessary development that one seeks. I have also noticed that the clientele is very cordial and courteous to their fellow members while working out together.
In conclusion, Crunch Channel-side is a very nice place to full-fill your work out needs.
I love this gym. I always go in the mornings, the only thing is that it gets too Crowded. But I still love it !
I am torn on this review. My SO and I joined before the Channelside location was open, when they were still getting together. We were super excited for a new gym that promised so many things, new equipment, amazing classes, and state of the art everything.
So I am going to break it down!
We went when they first opened and hadn't completed everything. I asked for help with the machines and setting up a walk through and I was gym-shamed. It was a very uncomfortable situation. I figured ok, I can give them another chance and no worries.
We went back again, again asked how to use the equipment, we were given a brief tour, much better this time. We were encouraged to set up a meeting with a trainer. We started going almost daily getting comfortable and then I needed a break. While on the break, I received a super sweet text from a trainer wanting 30 minutes of my time. She was super sweet, supportive and very genuine. Not being able to commit for the time she asked, I told her it would have to wait. She followed up with me with words of encouragement and the same whenever she saw me in the gym. LOVED it. If you get a chance, make an appointment with Takara. She is super sweet and very dedicated.
Let's start with why the 2 stars:
-Sign you up for text messaging and don't stop when you ask
-Text you offers that are only for new members
-Not everyone there is friendly or wants to help
-Management is unable to make changes or just doesn't care
-Some trainers don't listen when you are trying to work with medical issues ( arthritis, bad knees, etc.) they are just focused on getting you to spend a lot more money
-You are always being pressured to purchase more. More sessions, more of the trainers time and to commit to 3 or 6 month programs
-Most of the classes are only 30 minutes long.
-They aren't very good at enforcing gym etiquette
Now as for the 4.5 stars:
-Several people there (Takara and Dr. Crunch) are amazing, they care and are happy to explain things
-The equipment is amazing, there are lots of options and you can go in for 30 minutes or 3 hours.
-Everything is clean.
-Lots of parking
-They are happy to take the time to explain how a machine works
-the cost is super affordable
-they offer many local partnerships where you can get special discounts.
For the most part, the positive outweighs the negative. And if you are just looking for a place to work out and be done, this is it.
Crunch Channelside has great equipment with a fantastic location and you can't beat the price of $10/mo (if only using one Crunch Location) but I've never seen a gym more dirty.. all of the equipment is layered with dust, the platforms and rubber weights are full of dirt. Everytime you wash your hands after a workout you can see all the dirt wash off your hands. Doesn't matter if it's only $10/mo they need to take sanitation far more serious.

They have done a good job renovating the place and making it a full gym again after the construction. New saunas in the locker rooms and plenty of locker space. New equipment and pretty much everything you'll need. Don't be daunted by downtown location and parking - free garage right above it. 4 stars for how nuts it gets during the "rush hours" which is tough for them to control and for how loud they sometimes blast the music.

Love the equipment they offer BUT Machines are all FULL of dust. Seems like the only cleaning that is done is when people wipe down their area after using. And I barely see people wipe down their spots so I wonder how much they actually care about hygiene.
Great gym! The workers are so friendly, energetic and really helpful. I honestly was never one to care enough to get a gym membership, but after visiting a few times I was drawn in.
I love this gym. There's plenty parking. The gym staff was outstanding! Very fun no judgement environment!

There were sense foam boxes, literally a set of stairs, and tons of racks. I was so pleased. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. I'm so grateful I chose to come in today.

Slowly improving, plenty of equipment. I wish it was laid out better though.
Really crowded for those of us working out after 5pm. There is a variety of cardio and weight lifting equipment, and the gym hosts multiple events.
I was a member (and trainer) at LA Fitness for over 6 years. I've been the some pretty cool gyms across the country. This CRUNCH is the best gym I've ever been to. It beats the LA signature club in SoHo, actually it's really not even much of a competition when you factor in that Crunch is 10 bucks versus 60+ at LA's signature clubs. The vibe at Crunch is competitive but friendly. THEY HAVE HOIST MACHINES!!!!!!!!!! TRX, astroturf, free weights for days.... best gym. Can't say enough.
These guys have done an amazing job with this gym during renovations. The staff is always friendly and not conceited like many other large gyms in the area. Yes there was construction going on but, the place is massive and you can always get your workout in. I don't know how anybody can give them a bad review over the construction. If you signed up in the last six or seven months, they made it very clear that construction was on going. Now that they've had their grand opening, that's a thing of the past.
I am very disappointed at this location. They had a soft opening like 7 months ago and literally didn't start construction for the longest time, then when they finally did instead of doing it in a manner that minimally affects their customers they have made it a pain to exercise there on a daily basis. This location is in the heart of downtown Tampa and the gym is packed in the morning with people showering there and going straight to work after. Instead of closing down for a week and letting single location members use other locations they decided to do construction and have everyone workout around plywood and many other construction materials. They took down a wall by the mens locker room leaving half the locker room exposed to the sight of the gym floor. Today I literally had to get dressed inches away form other guys because we weren't trying to be disrespectful to the gym floor. On top of that there was no where to even set your bag except on the floor that hasn't been moped since the 1900s. In my opinion they should have closed the gym for one week and just finished construction and had their grand opening.
The absolute BEST place to be in the Tampa Bay Area! The employees are great & really make the Crunch experience enjoyable.

I was the previous director of powerhouse gym downtown (lower case due to value). I had to leave due to my moral standards being higher than the owners.
Powerhouse gym robbed the Tampa natives that supported the business along with the landlord (public record).
I want to cordially congratulate Crunch Fitness for taking a chance in the city of Tampa. We the residents of Tampa will not let you down!

Great location, my favorite gym layout of all the gyms I've been to locally. Friendly staff members also. I choose Crunch over LA fitness and fit for 10 always... The best equipment options of the 3.

they put up signs to tell me I can't use chalk. why can't I use chalk? are we not there to not judge anyone? so why judge me when I bring chalk. you mad I lift heavier than you? that's gotta be it.
The gym is excellent the location is great but the price is not 9.95 with 0 enrollment fees. They just call their enrollment fees something else. Also you have to commit for three months and pay some other 41 dollar fee before that time. When I got my membership I was charged 21.08. So there is definitely enrollment fees along with some other fees. However, the gym is excellent the staff is great and it is still a great deal but to advertise 9.95 with 0 fees is a strait lie and false advertising
