the people are nice and they stay out of your way and there is a variety of equipment.
First off I will say the gym is nice. Good equipment. Locker rooms are decent. Nice sized sauna. However, my experience has been awful.
I recently signed up for LA fitness. I requested the 5 day trial to see if I liked it. My phone got blown up over and over again trying to sell me a membership. I was interested, so I was polite and went in. I wanted to do the trial and got pushed into signing up. I wanted to do the 5 day trial first and when I said that they just said "why?" Over and over again. They also tried selling me a "managers deal" that actually costs more than signing up online. Which didn't feel appropriate at all. I mentioned it in the meeting and they then offered me the same online price. I still said I wanted to do the trial first. And they were asking about my boyfriend... which doesn't have anything to do with a membership. So I just signed up to be left alone and I do need to get back into working out. However, I signed up and said I didn't want to meet with a trainer. (I'm actually pretty experienced in fitness). I kept getting calls, so I finally answered. They were trying to schedule an appointment to meet with me (even though I said no already) and I said "No, I'm okay thank you." And he said "uh okay" with an attitude and hung up on me. I believe his name was Braunson? I'm unsure how to spell it, but that's all I got from the call. But he hung up on me even though I've had back to back phone calls and I was still polite. VERY unprofessional and inappropriate.
Not only have the people at LA try to sell me a more expensive "deal" than online, they were pushy, and blowing my phone up only to hang up on me despite me rejecting a trainer from the start. I didn't want to be pushed into anymore.
I wanted to get back into the gym and my experience has been nothing but negative. The gym is great, but some of the staff is rude and inappropriate. (Others have been kind and helpful) However, I don't appreciate the attitude, being hung up on, and trying to screw me over on a "deal". My experience has been nothing but negative. I literally only signed up 3 days ago.

Great facility, better than some of the other gyms on the area for sure. I would say the only reason why it doesn't get 5 stars is that they don't really enforce the dress code. People walk around barefoot (not even in socks) routinely and half the gals don't wear shirts and don't wipe down the equipment. That's how you get outbreaks of things like ringworm. It's such a nice facility (especially after the past renovations) that I'd hate to see it get a bad wrap for something like that.
Edit: They don't enforce any dress code here. I spent two hours watching a half dozen peoe sweat all over the place, some literally not wearing shirts, and a few even barefoot. None of them wiped anything down. This is how ringworm and staph is spread. Gonna start looking into other options for a gym subscription. Why have these rules if they aren't going to be enforces? Great facility, but starting to think it's not the cleanest anymore. I'd be happy to give it 5 stars in the future if these hygiene issues are remedied.
Edit: Since the remodel this place has taken a complete 180. Excellent facility that is laid out WAY MORE intuitively. The staff is taking major pride in taking care of the new additions and equipment. The bathrooms still leave a little to be desired, and some patrons can't figure out that you don't spit gum and throw paper towels in urinals... But that's not really the gym's fault.

They have great equipment. Monthly fees start at about $35 and go up depending on your membership. If you want a clean, professional place to work out I reccomend it. The elliptical have cable to keep you engaged while your working your way to weight loss. I like the corner free mat room. They have top of the line equipment. They even have a protein bar where you can order delicious protein shakes.
I've been to many gyms in a few states. This LA Fitness ranks in the top gyms. The staff is great and helpful, there is plenty of space even when it is busy, it is kept clean, and the sauna is great. They did a great job with the remodel. The membership price is less than many other smaller gyms I've been to. 5 stars.

This gym just had an over a million dollar remodel and closed down for three months (gave members a week's notice). They just shuffled things around. Now the place has 3 or 4 empty rooms for rent. When you enter, you are greeted by an abandoned smoothy bar. Their cleaning staff is way understaffed. The weights and machines are fine, but the lighting is dim. The manager is nice and staff is okay. Sometimes they'll have an old cardboard box for some kind of drawing. The bathrooms have always needed some bleach and caulk. They were supposed to have been remodeled, but still stinks.

If you decide to join it will be a lifetime commitment. They will not allow you to stop your membership and will never stop debiting your account. You will have to close your bank account to stop it. Even then they will hound you on the phone till the day you die. They are relentless.

Today as I was working out two members were using the equipment without shoes on which is just gross and should not be allowed. The free weights do not have enough options for a gym that claims they are " the bigest free weight section in Florida." The mats for streching are always dirty and it seems that they are never properly cleaned. This place is just filthy and unhygienic. ( only gave one star becuase I had to, if I could I would give it 0 stars)

Well now I know why you are rated soooo low rude customer service!! Not wanting new members you will eventually close-Not WILLING to give a free week pass!! Worst LA Fitness ever! A remodel for 3 months no where to go during that time! VP you got quite an attitude and no business for you! I will NEVER BE BACK! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS GYM!

Have been a member for 7 months, and I can say this is one of the best fitness clubs in the area. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly, and the other members for the most part are a great crowd. Definitely recommend.
This La Fitness is amazing! The GM John is so nice and so is the rest of his staff. I highly recommend joining because this place ROCKS! SUPER HIGH ENERGY!
This gym is not well maintained. I joined when it was new and it has rapidly and steadily gone downhill. Racquetball courts have been closed after flooding literally YEARS ago with either no knowledge from the staff on their fate or else promises of reconstruction and eventual re-opening depending on which staff member you ask on any given day. Due to the areas cordoned and walled off for the alleged reconstruction, free floor space in the gym is lacking and SORELY missed. Equipment, most notably cardio, is not kept clean. Dirt in the cracks and crannies, cup holders, etc. TV screens grimy and stained by water and sweat. I notice details like the dirty carpeting and stretch pads, and even the wall papering is curling, water stained and in need of repair. This location is in need of more shoulder bar pads (some days it is difficult to even find the ONE that they have), light weights and intermediate weights (e.g. 7.5 lb, 12.5, 17.5, etc.). The main draw keeping me at this gym is its proximity to my home , my guaranteed renewal fee, and the pool (despite the fact that all metal exposed to the pool chemicals has corroded, even to the point that the water fountains in the pool area had to be removed due to corrosion [can anyone say "poor planning"] and have not been replaced and I am more than confident that they will never be). The past several weeks, however, the heating system in the pool is not working and the pool water has been too cold to enjoy a swim in. As usual, I have been unable to get a straight answer on the problem, progress, or projected completion of the repair. The management at this gym are curt and uninterested in addressing complaints or satisfying members. I'm sure they are stressed and the incompetence and apathy are a top down issue. They do not seem to get support or help from corporate and are left to fend for themselves.
The St Pete Tyrone location use to be a great health club. Now what you get for your monthly dues is the following:
* Broken down machines
* Un maintained, non sanitary dry sauna, showers
* The hot tub is so clorinated you could bleach your hair blond
* The racquetball courts have been down for years, which I paid extra for.
Since then I paid for that extra amenity. Always told us it is coming.
RESULT: Cancelled membership and going elsewhere where I'm valued.
Will contact LA fitness corporate for answers on why they are failing here.
Never really liked this gym except Daiva's classes. Prefer any other LA fitness over this location. Today my finances' phone was stolen right by the machine while working out (not in the locker room). It's unfortunate there are no cameras in the gym and no help from the stuff. Be careful there - keep your stuff on you!
Well maintained facility with plenty of machines and free weights. LA Fitness does a very good job delivering a consistent product from here to California. A lot of b*tching about minor stuff and staff in these comments. (1) Read your damn contract. Don't blame others if the contract you signed is not what you thought it was. (2) The staff does a serviceable job. You want to pay twice as much as you do for dues? Then maybe you can get staff that works harder and more to your liking, but probably not. Be realistic. Work retail for a few weeks. Then tell me how you can stay positive with a bunch of whiners like you. You are at LA Fitness to jump on some machines, work out and sweat, not be pampered, get a damn pedicure and a hot rock massage.

So I was a member of LA Fitness a few years ago.. Paid all the money to join and use the facilities. So now I'm ready to get back into the game after about 2 years of not being a member. I called and they want to charge me AGAIN the start of fees of $90.00. No consideration for a past member. I'm in sales and when a previous customer comes in to do business with me, I appreciated the loyalty and work with them to insure I show my appreciation for them. I'm not looking for a discount on the monthly fee, which is by the way 3 times what other clubs charge. I'm was just looking for consideration for being a past member.. They say NO.
