I've been practicing Bikram Yoga for 12 years. I started in 2006 at Bikram Yoga Fort Myers, became a teacher, and have been teaching for over 10 years. I've practiced and taught at several studios over the years. Serious practitioners of Bikram will love this school, it's one of the last remaining authentic studios in the world. Overall, Bikram studios are run as schools, rather than traditional businesses. The schools are not meant to be run like a restaurant, store or spa. Jim works hard to create an atmosphere where students are able to cultivate discipline. Many beginners or outsiders may see this discipline as authority-driven, stifling, or militant. Staying in the room, moving with others, being still between postures, not wiping, limiting water intake; are all aspects of the practice that make students mentally and physically stronger. Because of his commitment to the integrity of this system, I have enjoyed massive benefits! As far as the smell, every true Bikram studio has a carpet, rather than hard floors, because carpet is more forgiving on joints. Although less than ideal, the smell of sweat is part of every studio I have ever visited. Great system, studio, teachers and students!!!!
