After an ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair I was searching for something to replace lacrosse in my life. I was 40 years old and getting fatter and crankier. I had been hearing about BJJ for years and it always peaked my interest. I finally went to try out a class in December of 2017 and was immediately hooked.
In about 6 months I am in far better physical and mental condition. I had no background in wrestling or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), heck I was never a very aggressive or physically assertive guy despite decades of playing lacrosse. BJJ has helped me tap into another part of myself. The confident part, the aggressive part, the athlete I once was. It filled the void of post game socialization with my lax buddies. I saw the difference this pursuit made... as did my wife... kids... and bosses at work. This is so much more than martial arts or self defense. BJJ will help you tap into unexplored parts of you!
Travis, Steve and Kurt, our instructors, are all awesome individuals and have earned their black belts. Their teaching and BJJ styles are all unique but blend well together when they are running class. They will all take the time roll (wrestle, grapple, whatever you want to call it) with you and give pointers and help you along.
The "team" or members of this school are equally as amazing. Supportive, respectful, talented at their craft and funny. I may have stepped away from the team sport I grew up playing, but I have found a pursuit in BJJ that will be will me as long as my body can handle it. 41 and no interest in slowing down anytime soon! Get here, train and grow!
