Don't walk in this place unless you are ready for life-changing fun. I stopped by one night during a "First Friday" art walk, I had a tiny bit of exposure to capoeira many years ago, so they let me play. There is something so right about what they are doing here. Bodies love to move. In a world full of crazy nonsense, this place is a beacon of hope.

I was introduced to movement at MR and got hooked right away. 3 years later and I'm still learning about my body, my practice and growing my skills.
Grilo is super knowledgeable, helpful and he is definitely in line with Ido Portal's method. He helped me get my handstand to the next level after I almost gave up, he also created a program for me so I can continue my training at my work gym in between classes.
Overall, it's been an amazing journey!

Movement ritual is perfect for anyone looking to expand upon their movement patterns, as well as maintaining strength and flexibility. Grilo is a great coach/instructor/student and I very much appreciate the community that I have experienced at MR. As someone who has followed Ido Portal's work for years I feel MR represents many of Ido's core principles and I look forward to learning and expanding my movement patterns here! Much love to everyone at MR that has made me feel apart of the family.

I was originally very excited to train here and had a fantastic few months. However, MR closed its doors with very little warning for a few months after I had already paid for 5 sessions up front. When they opened again, I had just sustained a broken wrist (which I told the Owner about immediately after it happened) in an accident rendering me incapable of performing the movements in these classes. After asking politely via email for a refund on two occasions (as he does not display any policies on his website), the Owner ignored me. Interestingly enough, if he had just answered with a simple "no, I'm sorry, there is no refund", I would have been fine. But since he decided to ignore me twice and be unprofessional in doing so, I am now extremely disappointed in who I thought was a decent and understanding human being. Even though I sustained an injury that rendered me incapable of performing his movements and he closed his doors for a few months, he clearly feels that it is okay to keep someone's money despite unfortunate events. I am extremely disappointed in what I thought was a safe haven, and more disappointed that the Owner didn't have the decency to just communicate with me instead of ignoring me.

I've been attending the capoeira classes since May 2017. Never in a million years did I think I would be learning a Brazilian martial art form, but that first class - I was hooked immediately. The people embraced me (literally and figuratively), they bring to class a dynamic and non-competitive energy, and they continue to whole-heartedly support me and all the others in the class. The movements - oh, the movements! The twists and turns and upside down tumbles and kicks. I'm re-learning how to move after a major sports injury, and learning how to move beyond what I thought was humanly possible for myself. Professor Grilo teaches from a place of expertise, preciseness, and deep care for the wellness of his students. His gentle and kind personality, his open heart, and incredible care for the history and layers of capoeira are what brings me back two, three times a week. Now, I've started attending his Movement classes as well that focus on strength, mobility, and awareness - the combination of the two classes complement one another and I know will help me to improve everything from my every day activities to help me to move beyond my plateau with snowboarding. Thank you, Grilo, for providing this beautiful space for us to GROW!
