Eighteen months ago I had a total left knee replacement. After a fairly unremarkable rehab with my right TKR a few years before, I was expecting a similar recovery with what I now call "traditional" physical therapy. Not so.
Three months into therapy, I was still in unbearable pain and taking evermore pain medication. My surgeon dismissed me with a simple "your x-rays look fine; healing just takes longer for some than others." When my pain medications were increased past "normal" limits, I was passed onto a pain management clinic where I underwent a genicular nerve procedure. When the words "possible complications" and "drop foot" were used in the same sentence, I scurried to Surgeon #2.
Surgeon #2 performed traumatic neuroma explantation and resection, then referred me to his hospital's rehab/physical therapist who specialized working with nerve damage patients, including amputees. The nerve resection was successful, the unbearable pain subsided....but there was still something wrong....
Forgive me for going on at length about my surgical nightmare, but it was about this time, nearly a year after the surgery, when I found Todd and Jen and Symfit.....by chance...cruising on the internet, as you are now, in a desperate search for something "different."
A few weeks into my initial Symfit sessions, I was getting better with my overall strength (and attitude; thanks for encouraging me, my Symfit friends!), but the knee just wasn't coming along...something was still wrong. With INTEGRITY and HUMILITY, Todd told me he was unable to help any further and suggested I return to an orthopedic specialist/surgeon.
Surgeon #3 found yet another iatrogenic surgical error, leading to knee revision surgery #3. I returned to Symfit after the required homecare pt. and I AM IMPROVING WITH EVERY VISIT... DRUG free!
I will leave it to current and past patients to review Symfit's "different" therapy techniques; suffice to say, I am telling my story to encourage others who are suffering with post-surgical pain to have hope...then take action and make an appointment with Symfit. It's "different," and may just return your quality of life. Thank you, Todd and Jen!
