I will start by sharing that I have over twenty years in the fitness industry, much of it in a sales and marketing management capacity, so I am familiar with the sales process in these clubs. Unfortunately, Colorado Athletic Club is using unethical 80s era low-end club sales tactics, with the bait and switch and price differences based on who you talk to. You may end up paying double what someone else has and not even know it. Management should be more on top of these things, maintaining a seamless member experience and an ethical approach to memberships is a minimum expectation for a club such as this.

They are not an honorable company. Beware, there is scummy fine print in your contract. They make quitting an expensive pain in the butt.

I was a member for 5 years. I've never belonged to a gym where 'management' and the financial department have been so complacent. When I was over-billed for 3 months in a row, the financial department was INCREDIBLY rude to me, and even hung up the phone on me. Impressive customer service. This behavior, in combination with the
poorly maintained equipment, and lack-luster class schedule is what led me to move on. I wish they actually had some competition in town since they are essentially a default gym for many members that need the pool/child care/gym combo.

I have been going to CAC Boulder for over 5 years and have used other CAC facilities for over 10. It was great when I started, but has slowly been going downhill. There are way to many "out of order" signs at the facility that seem to be there for months.

Hopefully they will be able to get some investment and bring the place up, but I had to cancel my membership today after getting tired of seeing the state of disrepair the facility is in that is only progressively getting worse - although they did have new shower curtains today.

Besides the mountains, this club is the main reason I love living here. The views of the Flat Irons on my drive in to the club never fail to put me in a good mood but this club makes me swoon. It's posh and swanky... my kind of place. It's not the cheapest but I don't care. You get what you pay for.

I take swim fitness classes here and I love them. The locker room (women's) is always clean and has fresh flowers! I don't even mind showering here.....once I got used to the fact that everyone struts around naked. It took me aback at first, I'll admit, but now I don't even mind when I'm sitting in the hot tub having a conversation with someone buck naked. I, of course, still wear a suit but no one judges me for that either. :)

I take classes at both the inside and outside pool and I enjoy both. The pools are well maintained. And parking for this club is a breeze with many spots in the parking garages on both sides. And for Boulder, that's quite a coup.

There are a ton of different kinds of classes, most of which are free with membership. There are a couple of things that have an additional cost but not too many.

Could the people working there be a bit more friendly? Yep. But to be honest, I don't deal with them all that much. They swipe my card and that's it. It's Boulder after all; not always the friendliest town.

I do think they could be a little speedier to get things fixed when they break down but maybe that's out of their control. I don't know.

My one and only real complaint is how heavy handed they are with trying to sell their personal training services. I was offered two free sessions when I first joined but then after my first session, I purchased the full package of 25 sessions (to the tune of $1200!). I assumed that I would have 26 sessions since I didn't do my other free one but nope. At the end of the 25 sessions, my trainer, all of sudden, just couldn't find a spot for me in his schedule anymore. Ugh, I hate when you are promised something but then it just becomes a hassle to get it. Anyway, all that said, the trainer did help me lose some weight. He made me pay him extra (!!!) for an eating plan, but I use it to this day. He didn't really take into account what I LIKE to do for fitness so his weight training has gone by the wayside....mainly because I just don't like lifting weights.

All in all, though, personal training aside, it's a great club and I'm happy to be a member.

30 dollars for a day quest pass?????? My gym membership back home is 36 dollars a month!! This is beyond crazy. There are so many work out classes offered here for under 15 dollars... there is no reason it should be 30 dollars to go work out for 1 hour.

I used to like this club a lot, but the facility is rapidly aging due to poor design decisions and a lack of reinvestment. For example, the lockers are starting to fall apart, the wet area tiles are slippery 24x24s instead of having enough grout lines for your feet to grip, etc.

The basic problem is not the local staff--Jill and her team are great--but it is an indifferent corporate parent that doesn't reinvest their profits locally.

Edited: I got tired of paying premium prices for less than premium facilities and left it behind. Too many yearly price increases and too few dollars reinvested into the facility. There are better kept clubs in Boulder.

Just like a lot of other places, they make cancelling your membership a pain in the ass. They require 30 day notice if you're terminating your membership and will happily bill you even if you aren't using their facilities. Based on the other reviews I've read (see Google, Yelp, etc.) this is a problem for a lot of people. Be prepared to get everything you can in writing from them. I was told that if I put a stop pay on my credit card they would send me to collections. The facility is passable but for the money you're spending it's nothing special. I'll follow up on my review if it becomes necessary for me to get an attorney involved!

Update:
I read a lot of the reviews on here and also their local BBB reviews. I went in person and asked to talk to a manager and didn't mention cancelling my membership. The manager I spoke with, Chaz, was super courteous and helpful and got me the form to cancel my membership. I obviously am not happy that I was billed for two months in which I was not using the facilities due to the wording of the contract. I got a photocopy of the signed cancellation form and I also followed up with their customer service office to make sure my policy would terminate and I would not continue to be billed. In all, I feel it was ridiculous to go through such a hassle to cancel a gym membership. I think it's insanely poor customer service or focus to charge people who are not using the facility. To be fair, this is common practice in the health club industry and several other health clubs in the area have similar policies. I am keeping my review at one star because I just can't see the legitimacy of this sort of practice, it's so unfriendly to customers. In addition, the pricing at CAC increases over time - I feel like pricing should be higher for new members and your loyalty should be rewarded by lowered fees over time. I do have to say that the staff was friendly and helpful and polite to me - but that doesn't make up for the fact that CAC as a company has little regard for their customers and apparently has no qualms about getting as much money out of everyone who walks in as possible. I have several friends I met during my time at the club and they have had similar, if not identical, experiences. I wish I had heeded the reviews on here in the first place and got a membership elsewhere.

My daughter joined this club. Apparently the amenities are nice. It seems quite expensive however. My advice would to be wary of the agreement that they expect you to sign. She signed a 12 month agreement. After the 12month period they will continue to charge you for the club unless you submit a form in writing requesting termination. Also they don't notify you at all prior to doing so. If you dispute the additional charges they will turn you over to collections. After 12 months it is quite understandable with all the other bills you have to forget this clause. Quite a scam!

I've belonged since '82 (go ahead, do the math:). Yes things have changed. Yes, it is no longer privately owned. The positives are many- the new facilities at Flatirons are fabulous, the instructors mostly have remained . . . there is nothing better in our area.

Staff is good, but it's driven by a corporate entity which is only interested in profits. Your money's better spent at a rec center.

Great facilities, staff and location. If you add to or change your account in anyway the fees are reset to current maximum. So don't count on fees based on duration of membership

Just awful!!!! Please, please don't let them trick you into signing up here. I was cajoled and convinced by one of the representatives to sign up, even though I told her I was moving away in just one month, and the shortest amount of time you can sign up for is 3 months. She said it was no problem; that we could do a leave of absence form and that I wouldn't be charged at all until I moved back to Boulder and reinstated my membership. She also said they were having a special where you would get a $100 membership credit (to use toward a massage, etc) if you signed up at the beginning of the year. Well, that was completely untrue. When I told them that this was what I was promised as part of signing up, they were just like "Oh, well, sorry." I was flabbergasted that I was made to pay for the mistake of an employee. Furthermore, it was untrue that I wouldn't have to pay during my leave of absence -- they have continued charging me, and when I called to cancel my account, they said they wouldn't cancel it unless I paid all of the accrued fees. I ended up having to cancel my credit card so that they couldn't keep charging me. What absolute vultures. In terms of the gym itself, it's not great. I was quickly disappointed by the sub-par yoga, and the fluorescent lights (that are everywhere, including the locker rooms) gave me migraines. Although they boast about having saltwater aquatics, the indoor and outdoor hot tubs reek of chlorine, and people go back and forth between the pools and hot tubs, which means the pools end up having chlorine in them anyways. Overall, this place was a complete waste of money, and I hope this review may give you pause before even considering joining! I so wish I had read some of these reviews before making such a colossal error.

Good facility however they always charge your card beyond your contract. BEWARE canceling with them, they will try and CHARGE you again and again. Funny how signing up is such a breeze yet they can never get a cancellation right. This is the 2nd time and based on reviews- this seems to be strategy of theirs. Perhaps a file to the BBB would be in order with them by someone b/c this is really poor business. I know you've got to sometimes do the cancellation forms ahead but even then they still charge your card and you have to jump hoops and make calls to get it cleared with them. It's a really sneaky and lame way of doing business with their customers. They love charging your card and you need to watch them. Other reviews reflect similar feedback so I'm wondering when they will learn, if they care. It's unfortunate that they have the best facility in town and I look forward to a little competition to wake them up a little.
**** EDIT**** They charged my card AGAIN...AFTER "resolving" and refunding the other charge that shouldn't have been there. What a crock this place is.

This gym is worth the fees. I decided to sign with CAC because of their policies surrounding their childcare facilities. Before being a member I met with Elle and Mary to discuss their polices regarding saftey and sexual abuse prevention. The polices in place are great and allows me to get in a workout and mommy relaxation time without worry. Thanks for your communication and clean facility CAC, I appreciate you.

A year ago, I rated this place 3 stars since things kept breaking and took forever to fix. I came back and love the place. The pool has an open schedule for lap swimmers, it's also saline which doesn't hurt your eyes (neither does the eye candy!) or make your skin rashy like chlorine, the hot yoga is working, and the steam room and sauna make me feel pampered. The place is clean and the staff are friendly. You'll also recognize steady local Boulderites, a comfort in a transient town.
