I'm giving them 2 stars only because I was a member there for 2 years and it wasn't always a bad experience. However, over the last year, the cleanliness and operation of the facility is going downhill. Many pieces of equipment are broken and shower heads are often missing.
The icing on the cake though for a low review was the process of canceling. My wife added herself to my account over a year ago - no problem. When it came time to cancel, they would not allow her to remove herself. Instead, I had to go in person, luckily I was working from home that day. A month later, I decided to cancel my membership completely and I got a total run around. I went in on Sunday afternoon and was told sorry, you can only do this in person between 8 and 6 M-F (hello! - I work during those times too). When I asked if there was someone here that could sign me up, they said yes, but they don't have the authority to un-sign me up - only a manager can do that and they only work 8-6 M-F (like the rest of us). Finally the person working the front desk gave me the manager's card and told me to call her. So, at 9am Monday, I call to cancel. I get all sorts of run around again from the manager that they cannot do a cancellation over the phone, it has to be by email. So, here we go again. Finally after the email, they processed my cancellation, which will take 30 days to become effective.
My advice is this. You have many choices in gyms. Gold's is focused on one thing - their bottom line. Personally, I have moved to the YMCA down the street. It is much smaller, but they have been great with customer service, have new equipment and are genuinely more concerned about my waist line than their bottom line.
