I have always loved the grace and beauty of Taiji, so when my husband and I walked pass the window of White Dragon Martial Arts, it seemed like a good time to join. I was 64 at that time. Although I had been physically active most of my life, during the last 10-15 years I had become more sedentary (returned to school) and was becoming stiff and inflexible.
Taiji was everything we had hoped. It improved our balance, our memory, our leg and arm strength. After 4 years of practice, I find to my amazement that I am am at my most flexible, and on the verge of mastering the side splits. The slow stretching postures of Taiji work wonders !
A year after I started Taiji, I also began the study of Choy Li Fut (Kung-Fu) with White Dragon. The two disciplines work well together, with the Choy Li Fut adding additional balance, and leg & arm strength required for Taiji. The quickness of Kung-fu versus the slowness of Taiji -- it's a good combination. Plus, of course, the additional benefit of skills needed for self-defense.
I study with White Dragon San Marcos, and love my school, its instructors, the students. The school has an extremely large children's class, and it is wonderful to watch the instructor interaction with the children. They are just wonderful with them.
Each student is assigned a Personal Instructor for private lessons, and then there are group classes as well. Additionally, all levels are supervised by Sifu Vandergriff. Having experienced classes with almost all of the White Dragon teachers by now, I can can honestly say that I am continually impressed with their knowledge, skill, patience and optimism, their ability to encourage the student in a positive manner.
Certainly I intend to continue... "Onward and Upward !"
