Really upscale gym i feel like lunch time (11:30-2pm) is the best time to go

The only gym I've joined that's been able to keep me coming back/ stick with the habit of working out.

Awesome facilities, incredible equipment, clean... depending on the time of day, reasonably spacious. The classes are good and their personal trainers will work with you to make fitness a habit.

...it's just pricey...

I have never been more disappointed in a facility in my 65 years of life. I was a regular at the spa, spent a lot of money there and, unfortunately, bought work-out pants from the retail outlet. Upon washing them, the elastic in the waist band turned and could not be straightened out. I took them back and was told by the retail manager, Alex, "It is your fault. You put them in a too hot dryer!" I don't dry my work-out clothes in the dryer and I will never spend one more dime at Equinox. I am a Four Seasons regular, having stayed with them many, many times both in SF and on Maui. NO MORE! Thank you for your excellent customer service Alex! Mark Backer

Seeking determination and consistency. This would be the place to find your zen and learn new things about your body that will bring your health to a great place. Excellent instructors, learning new forms and 103 degrees of sweaty fun!

For the amenities this is worth the price, however you are best off if you can find off hours. Around peak time there is generally a wait for equipment and for showers.

Steam room, sauna, pool, chilled towels, and a good selection of machines and free weights.

TL;DR: If you can avoid peak bro-hour, you're onto a winner; albeit at a price.

Expensive but excellent. That is to say, compared with the majority of SF gyms, Equinox is a diamond in the rough.

Equinox SF is well equipped, and needs to be to accommodate 'bro hour' 6-7pm Monday and Tuesday where tech-bros grunt their way through their slam-the-weights-down workouts.

If you're unlucky enough to need peak workouts, prepare for desperate displays of masculinity, queues for showers and non-specific douchebaggery.

If you're able to avoid peak hours however, nothing holds a candle to this Equinox. The staff are pleasant and attentive, locker rooms cleaned regularly and the whole operation is well run. The equipment is clean, modern and well maintained. The trainers appear friendly and discreet, though I haven't used one. The range of machines, availability of squat racks and overall kit levels are excellent.

Don't do it. It's a nice gym but the experience isn't worth the high price. It's aways crowded. Waiting for a shower is common. Front desk and maintenance staff are excellent but management and membership sales reps are worthless and never available at the club and slow, if ever to reply to email or phone.

I was a member for years, since it was Sports Club LA, before finally being driven away by the latest (substantial) fee increase and the ever-more-crowded conditions.

Equinox continued charging after what should have been the effective date of my cancellation, following the 30-day notice process they told me. The general manager, Colleen Harnett, offers me only a partial refund of what I was overcharged, as a "courtesy".

I love this place. The classes are amazing and there are multiple per hour, so I can jump in anytime, even if my train is late.
The staff is timely and knowledgeable. I'm not afraid to ask for help here, which happens often because they have some of the newest equipment known to the fitness community.
I hope to continue my fitness habit here :)

Customer service here is awful. The managers do not concern themselves with members being harassed by other members. The management encourages members to be vigilantes, but does not take client complaints about hostile environments in the locker room seriously. Additionally, the managers I have encountered lack the ability to remain calm when pressed and offer no solutions.

Currently undergoing some construction, but still accessible. Convenient location for those working downtown near Market Street.

Perpetually undergoing renovations, which are poorly communicated. Staff are enthusiastic but don't know very basic things about the club. Beware: their staff appreciation events lead to early weekend closures. Aggressive, bro-ish management. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.
