The best place to learn capoeira in the Bay Area. Perfect for beginners and advanced practitioners alike!

Professor Tucano is an amazing figure in the Capoeira community. I'm very fortunate to have been in a workshop led by Prof. Tucano at the Seattle Capoeira Center. His teaching style makes Capoeira easy for everyone to learn. I have 20 years of experience in teaching Capoeira and everytime I see Professor Tucano play I love and appreciate Capoeira more for its fluidity and beauty. The San Francisco Capoeira Center is fortunate to have a leader like Prof. Tucano at the wheel. I recommend this location to all levels.

Oh man Ive done some Capoeira and even when Im not in a group I think about it and practice and stuff, and I gotta say that this class is exquisite.

Its like yoga in motion, as a partner dance. Its not a competition. Its synchronous. Its gentle on my body, and intensely strengthening for all my muscles and joints. We move low slowly, upside down and gliding through spins and handstands.

Every day I come to class, I feel renewed and freed through my shoulders and hips.

Thanks Tucano

I cannot say enough good things about Capoeira Angola Quintal SF! I began going because I was tired of the gym and running - I expected a good, full body work out (which I definitely got!) but didn't expect how much I would love the teacher, Tucano, and his very welcoming students. I never felt out of place, even when learning brand new things. His teaching style is warm and humorous, yet he pushes me to do things I never thought possible.

If you have never tried Capoeira before, I highly recommend this school. There are students of all levels in each class, so you will never be out of place as a very beginner. Tucano is very skilled at tailoring his lessons to beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. He speaks about "mindful capoeira" - emphasizing how important it is to understand the details of each movement, similar to how a yoga class works, but wayyyy more fun. It also seems like he is really great person in general - he is really good at welcoming everyone into the CAQ community.

All in all, capoeira is an amazing way to not only get in shape and get strong, flexible, and agile, but to do so in one of the most bad ass ways possible. If you are looking for those sorts of things AND want to love your teacher and fellow students, feel like you are part of a community, and get a big old boost of self esteem and happiness, I recommend CAQ SF over any other capoeira school in SF. ITS AWESOME!!!!! See you there!!!! :)

I was a student Capoeira Quintal for a total of, I believe, 6 months. I lived in Mountain View at first and later Downtown SJ, and would drive to SF after class or work. I would sit for 2 hours of traffic to go to this school and It was worth it every time I went. Many times it was the best part of my week. Sincerely I wish I could keep going but the distance was getting too much. From Day 1 Tucano always made me feel welcome, even with my personal hang ups. His focus on the fundamentals was essential. Building on top of those skills helped me and my fellow class mates develop a sense of confidence in our abilities. In addition to the game of Capoeira this school strives to develop in every practitioner a real sense of understanding of why the game is played and what the songs mean. These lessons have made me a lifelong lover of the sport. I know I will take those ideas with me every time I go to a Roda. Even though I now go to a different school, I still wish this school the very best and I can't wait to play them again in the future. If you were ever hesitant about giving Capoeira a chance, just know that this is the school to go to. Practice will be hard but ultimately worth it.

Great energy and a very friendly group. Classes with lots of individual instruction for beginners and intermediate level capoeiristas. If you are in the bay area this is a good place to train! Muito Axe.

Never in my 7 years of Capoeira have I seen beginners progress as fast as they do with CAQSF. This is by far the best place in San Francisco for both beginners players and more experienced Capoeiristas. The instructor Tucano is incredibly talented, patient, empowering and creative in his class instruction. Relatively small class size allows for way more 1 on 1 attention and super fast growth. Great diverse group of people coming from all kinds of backgrounds, ages, sizes and skill levels.
Plus the introductory deal of $20 for the first week (up to 10 classes) is unbeatable.
JOGA BONITA!
