I signed up for yet ANOTHER gym membership with that little voice whispering in the back of my head, "Yeah, suuuuuuure, you're going to work out regularly. What a chump." Well, screw you stupid inside voice, because for the past few months, I have been going at 2-3 times a week and loving it.
I have been living in the Glen Park/Sunnyside area for about 25 years and have walked by fGf since it opened. It is def a boutique gym absent of large crowds, pushy personal trainers, and gym mustiness. Because of my schedule, I usually workout at 5:30am or the early afternoon, so "the crowd" is usually 2-3 other people. The machines and equipment are high quality, well-kept, and clean. And when I have needed to talk with staff, they have been really helpful.
I signed up for the $55 a month membership which carries a $99 sign-up fee. For other members of the household, it is also $55 a month, but the $99 fee is waived. I wish there was a family rate, but I understand with a small gym, that just may not be feasible.
Overall, i have been very happy with fGf, so if you think you have it in you to work out on a regular basis, fGf's setting, structure, and space make it that much easier to do so.
Good luck!
