I've been a member here for a few years now. The clientele is a broad mix of people at all different levels of fitness and with different goals. Despite the name of the place, you shouldn't think of it as only an MMA gym. They cater to a wide variety of people and I LOVE that.
It's clear that the owner, Nick cares about his gym. The facility is spacious, and super clean! All of the classes they offer challenge you until the end and they're various types of classes so you will definitely never get bored!
I've gone to a number of gyms over the years and tried personal training a few times. The owner, Nick is extremely knowledgable, and he's the first trainer I've worked with who actually keeps my goals and my fitness level in mind on an ongoing basis. I have been working of mental and physical goals and Nick has helped me achieve a lot of those.
If you want a gym that you can feel comfortable in and feel like home -- look no further!
I absolutely love this place. Top coaches and an amazingly welcoming environment. Highly recommended.
Bravo Zulu is an excellent gym with fantastic instruction, training space, and training partners. You get world class hands on jiu-jitsu training and practice from black belt instructor Alex Yocum, and while I'm not a striker, I'm always impressed by what I see going on in the striking and fitness classes. The gym is well set up and clean. A great and comfortable place to train. Highly recommended!
I joined up with Bravo Zulu a few months ago to train Muay Thai. It's been a blast every class and the coaches here have been great. They show an impressive breadth of knowledge in technique and application and are very passionate about teaching. They have relit my own passion in martial arts and I look forward to staying with these guys for awhile. The community has been very chill and welcoming.
Deciding to have Coach Nick as a personal trainer is hands down the smartest decision I've ever made in regards to my physical health. Not an exaggeration by any means. I've always struggled with trying to get back into shape, but this man, he will push you to be better. Whether it's kettle bell swings, boxing, Muay Thai, Russian Twists, even the good old squat, he takes the time make sure you understand what you're doing. The posture, the position of your feet, the way you have to hold your hands up. He walks you through every step, demonstrates, and motivates. He is truly phenomenal. And I am so grateful for him that I finally have the motivation to be healthier. If you're trying to get back into it, go to Coach Nick. You will not regret it.
Great work out and training for classes and private lessons with Nick. I love the women's class on Fridays at 6:30pm!

So happy this place is in the neighborhood! No excuses, when the gym is 5 minutes away. Other than the location being super convenient, the gym is beautiful. All new equipment (pads, bags) and the mats are clean and super bouncy.
Nick, the owner, is a down to earth guy and really wants to build a sense of community in what sometimes feels like an over saturation of "MMA" gyms in the Bay Area. Other than being super knowledgeable in wrestling and jiu jitsu, Nick is just the kind of guy I would want to hang out with! Trust me, it helps to get beat up by someone you actually like. His strike fit class is so torturous, but like, in the best way possible. It hurts so good!
I have dabbled in jiu jitsu here and there but I've really enjoyed the classes with Alex. Jiu jitsu is a ton of technique that can get pretty overwhelming when first learning, but Alex is articulate and encouraging.
David is one of the Muay Thai trainers and I really dig what he does. He really focuses on technique and the basics. Listen, we all want to be badass mofos doing spinning back kicks and superman punches, but you got to learn the basics first. David does a great job of focusing on certain themes in each session (footwork, head movement) for beginners and intermediates alike.
All in all, this is an awesome gym and I'm glad it's in my hood!

So, so, so, so thrilled to have found this place. I've been looking for somewhere I can do some kickin' and punchin' on the regular. This is it. I'm not new to martial arts, did TKD for a long time and some boxing, but have been interested in Muay Thai for a while. The instructors here are awesome and the sense of community is an added bonus. There's no ego and so much to learn - many MMA styles to choose from. I've also been doing private training with Nick and it's been both fun and challenging.
This is no cardio kickboxing joint, you're training to fight here. You'll undoubtedly be in better shape as a by product of your training, but the end game is learning skills/strategies and conditioning for sparring.
Bravo Zulu is an awesome gym. Everyone there has a great attitude and the trainers really want to help you improve. One of the few places where you can really improve your no-gi jiu-jitsu. Love rolling here. Keep up the good work guys!
I am a veteran of 6 years and was new to Oakland looking for a place that accommodates both community and fitness, MMA Bravo Zulu offers a safe place that empowers veterans and the community. I took the Women's Kickboxing class and often leave the gym with new techniques and a positive sense of empowerment. Nick accommodates your schedule and offers a safe and high quality gym for you to train at. From strength training to developmental techniques, MMA Bravo Zulu keeps me constantly learning to better my fitness goals. I would highly recommend MMA BRAVO ZULU.
Good place for any person interested in learning martial arts. They teach people of all experience levels in Maui Thai, jujitsu and other marshal arts. The trainers are good and classes are always fun. The trainers as well as members are really welcoming to new people and will make you feel comfortable. Highly recommend anyone who is interested to try this gym out.
I love Muay Thai class! David, Gary and Nick are fantastic trainers. I came in off the street with no martial arts backgrounds whatsoever, wondering if I could keep up, and they took me on, no problem. Classes are tough, but not more than you can handle, and all of the trainers care about you and your progress. Go to every class you can make and get your money's worth!
Great kids program! My 2 kids, age 10 and age 6, have learned so much over the past 6 months! They're training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, and Kickboxing! Nick, Alex and Gary give great instruction, make it fun, and provide a good amount of discipline and challenge at the same time. Definitely worth checking out if you want your kids to learn self-defense and self-confidence!
Nick is such a great trainer. I had fun while doing the workouts. Nick is more than a trainer, he's really there to accommodate to everyone's needs. I personally found a connection with him by both being pro military. I hadn't trained in a long time due to injuries, but training at Bravo Zulu gave me that great workout while not forcing my injured knee.
Clean gym, New equipment, Cool people and skilled teachers that care about technique as well as a good work out. I would like to keep this place as a secret because it's such an Oakland gem and I like the community feel to it. But I'm sharing the love so this gym can continue to thrive! I definitely recommend it.
