This is, hands down, my favorite yoga studio I've ever been to. I am in Oakland for a month and signed up for the one month package. I've had the chance to take classes from 6 different instructors and have loved EVERY SINGLE one. The energy of this studio is exactly what I need when I do yoga. Down to earth, non-competitive, allowing one to focus on oneself and one's practice. The power yoga allows for a hard class, but it always feels wholesome. And the instructors always provide options for all levels of yogis, from beginners to advanced practioners. Thank you Left Coast Yoga. I really look forward to seeing you again next summer!
Left Coast Power Yoga is my new favorite studio. They combine heat and intentional breath work, with dynamic movement, creating deep stretches and challenging movement sequences. I come from a diverse yogic background, but since motherhood, and moving across the country I have struggled with finding a studio that inspires me, feels good, and that is close to my home. Left coast is centrally located on Grand Ave, just a few blocks away, and has a welcoming and calming vibe that I felt the first time I walked through their doors. I leave sweaty, and grounded, and smiling. What more could you ask for?
One of the best yoga studios I've ever been to. The teachers all have unique and thoughtful flows, keeping each class interesting. The classes are a great workout and challenging, but not difficult to the point where I feel left out. I love the sense of community of the people and the local vibe of the space.
I have been going to Left Coast Power Yoga for a year now (off and on!) and I will be keeping it up! It is a very welcoming atmosphere. I learn a lot about yoga each time I go - breathing, chants, poses. It is warm but not too hot :) The classes are mostly full, but there is always space for one more last minute. Its also very good value.
I started attending Left Coast Power Yoga because I followed one of the teachers to this location. I must say that although the studio is smaller (more intimate) than other studios I've attended over the last 10 years, it truly is wonderfully comfortable and provides just the services that I need for a great yoga session. I love the softer floors (I have 53 year old knees!) the simple clean facilities and especially the fast check in process. I happily recommend this studio to friends.
Love this studio! I am just beginning my yoga practice and every instructor at Left Coast has been so inclusive to people of all levels. Each class is different while still very comfortable and super manageable. Every time I go, I leave completely stress free and ready for the day. I highly recommend!

Aside from having a super convenient location and early morning schedule, 2 things that are very important to me, I really appreciate that the caliber of the teachers is consistently strong while also diverse. I always leave feeling like I had a really balanced practice with a good mix of strengthening and flexibility. Music is typically mellow enough so as to not be distracting while keeping the pace lively. As much as I like the heated space, I tend to put my mat near the door for just a little bit cooler of an experience and that works for me, even when the class is packed. All in all, Left Coast Power Yoga is an awesome neighborhood studio with a focus on community, diversity and inclusivity. . . something to feel good about body, mind and soul!

I've taken 5-6 classes at Left Coast Power Yoga in the past two months, and each one has been an excellent experience with amazing instructors. The studio is a big small and hot, but I enjoy the feeling of sweating all the toxins out so it doesn't bother me! (I've never taken an actual bikram/hot yoga class - just regular power yoga.) The instructors are kind, funny, and have excellent taste in yoga-appropriate tunes to play. Excited to keep coming back!
I'm the middle age man who gets to class early to get a spot in the inconspicuous back corner because I don't really know what I'm doing. I only go a handful of times of year. Still, every different teacher has made me feel welcome and the classes are quite accessible. My wife who is a much more frequent attender (attendee?) and does know what she's doing loves this place. It's definitely the friendly local yoga studio.
I really like left coast yoga! Most of the teachers there have fun, challenging and different sequences week to week which I really appreciate. The vibe in the studio is very much so on individual practice, a challenging physical practice but also incorporates spirituality. I do think the classes and studio itself is becoming more popular so the classes fill up and it could get a little too tight in there so they may want to consider a larger space in the future. Overall, really love the classes and location.

Left Coast Power Yoga is an incredible studio. The practice is strong and inward focused. Teachers are excellent! The community is welcoming, kind and does not come with the "scene" that you sometimes feel at yoga studios. Most classes are heated but not overly hot like Bikram. Typically the room is max 90 degrees (I believe). I love this studio and I am so thankful to have found it.
Left Coast Power Yoga is the kind of down-to-earth, grassroots, no BS studio I've been looking for. It's a diverse, inclusive community. The quality of instruction is top-notch. And the yoga is still connected to its traditional roots and philosphy without it being the "holier than thou" vibe. Thank you to the creators of Left Coast!
I've been going to Left Coast for the past 6 months and I absolutely love it! Every teacher is great and super open to personalized practice and student input. The classes are a mix challenging moves and mindful practice with good emphasis on breathing, which is sometimes easy to forget in heated yoga. The hot power yoga classes are at 88F which make the classes challenging but not miserable. Love both locations!
Excellent instructors and a welcoming, calm space. I have gone to Left Coast Power Yoga for years, including prenatal and postnatal. The instructors are highly qualified and they do an excellent job of making sure individuals feel challenged and supported at all levels. Highly recommend this studio!
I've gone to five classes at Left Coast, and I've really enjoyed all of them. They are truly power yoga classes - I got a good workout at all of them (even the "slow flow" class) - but the teachers also gave great alignment cues. It's tough to find a power yoga class that combines strengthening and alignment - often, I feel that I either didn't get a workout, or that I just went to a pilates class rather than a yoga class. This has not been the case at Left Coast - they offer a perfect mixture of strengthening and alignment.
I really enjoy Left Coast Power Yoga! The teachers have always been welcoming and there are classes at very convenient times. My only qualm, which is a completely person preference, is that I don't love having mirrors in the studio. Otherwise, I definitely recommend checking out the studio!
Great studio and great teachers. Room is pretty small and it gets warm, so bring a small towel if you tend to sweat. Some teachers bring essential oils for shavasana which is a nice touch. Classes are usually a great blend between challenging and relaxing.
Left Coast is my absolute favorite spot to practice yoga in Oakland! The studios are conveniently located, intimate but with always enough space, and the teachers lead powerful yet attentive classes. I've only taken the heated classes, but the temperature is just right - hot enough to get a sweat but not overpowering or too exhausting!
I am new to yoga and this studio has made me feel very welcomed and comfortable with being a beginner. All the instructors have been super friendly and very knowledgeable. Every class has been great so far!
I've been to the Grand Ave. Studio a few times, and I love it! I've been off yoga for a few years, and it's been difficult to get back into the groove; but this studio has clicked for me! The instructors are solid, the studio is bright and airy, yet small enough to feel personal, and the workout is quality.
I go to the Tuesday Sunrise AM class that Keisha teaches. She's fantastic. I'm not an active yoga person by any means and while I've been to classes before, hers is the first where I felt comfortable regardless of skill level. She does great adjustments and has a positive attitude. Whether I can only do child's pose or am able to do a camel, i walk away from that class feeling confident and part of a community. Thank you!
Love this place! I've been attending for a couple months now - it's a pretty new studio so the facilities are very clean. A couple points:
- Price: It's better than other studios in the East Bay area, especially if you consider purchasing multiple class passes or monthly passes. It's also nice that you're able to split multiple class passes with another user.
- Facilities: Like I mentioned above, very clean and new
- Instructors: Varies since there are so many; attend a few different classes and find which one works best for you. I've found that some are more fast-paced than others, some are more spiritual than others, some are more 'intense' than others.
- Capacity: Most classes are about 12-15 people in my experience; it's rare that it feels 'too crowded.' I attended a class this morning that was about 5 or 6 people and it was great.
Had a couple classes with Jenna P after taking a 5+ year yoga hiatus. Excellent instruction and flow of class. She always does arm balances which I love. Good for beginner and intermediate students.
Left Coast Power Yoga consistently provides me with a nurturing, peaceful and supportive community in which to grow my yoga practice. The instructors meet each practitioner at their current level and offer gentle assistance to help us get a little stronger with each class. There's a just right class for everyone there!
I've loved practicing at Left Coast! 99% of the classes I've taken at this studio have been a stellar blend of breath work, relaxation, and a great workout. The studio is slightly heated, which lends itself to deeper stretching, but isn't oppressive like Bikram or some other styles. I've especially enjoyed classes taught by Elissa, Claire, and Sarah Kate!
I've really enjoyed taking classes at Left Coast. I've found all the teachers to be very friendly, attentive, and tuned in to helping you push farther or modifying depending on what you're looking for. I often go to the Uptown location and I really enjoy that the floor there has a bit of padding instead of being hard, it's a small thing but it makes a difference for me.
Really knowledgeable instructors! Love this place. They know how to build classes around a theme and prep you really well for the harder poses. I like that a lot of the intention seems to be on being generous with yourself, going at your pace, and being friendly to each other. After every class they always invite you to hang around and ask questions. I have really fallen in love with this place!
I love Left Coast!!! I have never been to a studio that was more community oriented than here. The teachers are so friendly and fun and you always see your friends in class. I am so glad I found this place!
Love love love this studio! Great instructors that are wonderful for all levels. The studios are clean, smell fresh and the Uptown studio even has a shower so I can go before work and just get ready there.
Love the teachers and love the classes. A wide range of class times any day of the week and the teachers are all attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a yoga studio.
My favorite and now ONLY yoga studio. My favorite teachers are Rachel, Elissa and Brandon. The classes will get you working but also taught without inaccessibility and pretense which is so welcoming and helpful for those getting into yoga for the first time. They always welcome modifications and are incredibly intuitive to their students. Love this studio!
My yoga home in Oakland! The perfect place for your first yoga class ever or your 10,000th. I love that this studio makes you feel safe and welcome no matter your level, and that they really focus on building a community. I've never left feeling like the teacher didn't care that I was there, which is such a common experience in the yoga studio world.
Amazing yoga studio. All of the teachers and classes are great, and it's a really refreshing vibe. Very open and diverse - they really think about making sure everyone is welcome here. Definitely check it out!!
Left Coast is my favorite yoga studio in the East Bay! Every teacher's classes are a great mix of meditation, stretching, and a challenging yoga practice with modifications to fit every student's level. Also, the studios are very clean and well-ventilated. So, although the classes are heated, I never feel suffocated like at other studios. Would absolutely recommend Left Coast to a yogi at any level!
it so happens the studio closest to my apartment is my favorite yoga studio. i love the casual, welcoming vibe of this studio and instructors. i've only done sunrise power yoga -- it's a great way to start the day.
Left Coast Power Yoga is the ideal Yoga studio--friendly, welcoming, clean and filled with wonderful people and instructors. I had been searching for a Yoga studio in the area that was both challenging and centering and I'm so happy to have found Left Coast. The teachers give a great deal of instruction and no class feels too rehearsed. The studio is beautiful (the Uptown one is a bit bigger/more modern while the Grand Lake one is smaller and cozier). I love that I can sign up for any class at any location and I am guarunteed an awesome experience. Highly recomend!
I love Left Coast Yoga Studio. The staff is great, the studio is clean & my body feels wonderful after my yoga practice. They emphasize listening to your body & breath to make each class/experience uniquely yours. I am so glad I found this studio.
It's an oxymoron to call any yoga class "aggressive," but Left Coast Power Yoga is definitely more attuned to yoginis who want a sweaty, challenging yoga experience rather than a mellow, chilled-out stretching session.
I have never had a bad teacher here. Most have taught here for a matter of years, so they know their routines / flows well, no dilly-dallying. Most times it's a straightforward workout; there is minimal chanting or Sanskrit usage. I always walk out feeling fantastic physically & mentally and triumphant for making it through a class where I was asked to do things I didn't think I could do - and I did them!
A heads-up those thinking about going to a yoga class here and then moving directly in to the rest of their day: it's hot in here and there is not a full-fledged locker room with showers! You will be very sweaty when you leave, so plan to pit stop for a shower and a change of clothes before you're on to your next thing.
Really enjoying the classes at Left Coast Power Yoga. All of the instructors are awesome (especially Sarah Kate)! Definitely give this place a try if you're looking for a yoga studio in Oakland.
OK, I admit I'm a huge fan of the practice, but that also means I can identify when a studio is designed to foster a healthy attitude. I appreciate the personal touch (a phone call from the owner asking about my experience!), expertise of the instructors, diversity of instructors and practitioners, etc. There have only been a few of my 17+ classes here where the music was loudly distracting or the instructor didnt ask about injuries or allergies (to essential oils). Otherwise, the instructors are cognizant, aware, approachable, professional and pretty darn amazing. Why else would I go back to this studio when there are a dozen others? LCPY is one of my favorites and they've won me over.
All of the teachers are awesome and have different styles, so I feel that each class I take is fresh and new. I especially love the Sunrise and Sunday morning classes, and also the noon-time ones, a great way to break up your day. I was impressed and am grateful that LC had several donation classes for the North Bay Fires. I highly recommend Left Coast Yoga!!
I love, love, love LCPY! The teachers are fabulous. They have taken me from being a tentative newbie beginner to a confident twice a week yoga person. There are lots of classes and teachers. I am really happy to have found a place where I can practice yoga and feel comfortable, supported and challenged. They are always providing a wide variety of pose options to accommodate all levels of participation. I especially love Nina P, Elissa B and Sarah Kate M!
Left Coast Power Yoga is very welcoming for all at every skill level! I am relatively a beginner at yoga, but have found peace from a physical and mental health perspective via yoga. LCPY teachers notice my limitations as a newbie, and thoughtfully / politely help me get to the next level. I've been to many Yoga Studios in the East Bay, and this is by far my favorite!
Left Coast has a great variety of teachers and classes both, in personality, style, age, experience level, gender, you name it. I love it for that. And there are a TON of classes, at nearly every time of day, and increasingly so with two studios. I have also found an hour class to fit my schedule and life so much more readily than 90 minutes, which most of their classes are (an hour). And they are affordable, especially with unlimited and large class passes. A new convert from another studio that I was just complete with, and very happy to have found them.
Wow - do I ever love Left Coast Power Yoga! I have tried yoga before but never loved yoga until I started my practice at LCPY. The teachers are all wonderful - warm, knowledgeable, great on alignment and teach fantastic classes. I always leave LCPY feeling wonderful - sweaty, relaxed, calm and happy and better than when I arrived. I highly recommend this yoga studio to new and experienced yogis alike.
Love Left Coast Power Yoga! All the instructors are great and I leave each class feeling strong and centered. Happy to be apart of such a wonderful community!
Left Coast is definitely my favorite yoga studio in the whole east bay area. I love the variety of experiences I have from all of the different teachers. They all bring a different spin on the yoga experience. I always leave feeling invigorated and refreshed both mentally and physically. Every time I go to a class I learn something new, explore a new pose or position, or muscle group. I've been to other yoga studios in the area, and my experience has been that they're much more formulaic and repetitive. Not the case at left coast, which is why I keep coming back there.
