I've been going to Tim's class on and off for the past few years. First off, he is a great yoga teacher with many many years (20+ iirc) of experience. He has a good heart and spirit and that comes through in his classes. He's also hilarious. His classes are less meditative and more chatty than some might like, but it really worked for me. He often talks about spiritual themes and mythology, which leave me feeling inspired and intrigued. There is also a lot of banter about more mundane things, too. He is totally kooky and into conspiracy theories, and if you can't stomach that you won't like his classes, because he talks about them a lot. Personally I don't care what you believe - if the energy is good, I'm in. And that's what I found in Tim's classes and why I stayed.

The owner, Tim, keeps costs down for us. Lucky for us, he has some great new teachers now, who are listed on the paper handout, but not yet online. They are great teachers! So, I try to rotate during the week, to take one class from Tim, Christie's Thursday 930 am class, Suzanne's 9 am Saturday class, and Cynthia's 930 Tuesday class (not the Mom and Baby yoga). Cory (Saturdays at 11 am, and Mondays at 730 pm), and Muneefa (Wednesdays at 730 pm) are great too but I can't normally make their classes. Each instructor is different, including their postures, and sequences, so all complement each other well. Some play music, others don't. Some talk more, others less. I don't agree with everything I hear but I don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good. Each works you out thoroughly though, without risk of repeating the same thing too much There are some mixed reviews so check it out for yourself. You won't find better all-around all-level yoga workouts for the price and nice, warm, friendly atmosphere.

I have been coming to MYS since October and have taken 4 classes with Cynthea so far. She runs the prenatal classes with prego women as well as new mommies with their babies on Saturdays at 2-3:15pm. Drop in class $25.

I wrote an email to Cynthea about taking prenatal classes and she scheduled a 15 min phone call to understand my situation and my needs which I thought was very thoughtful. We had an immediate connection through the phone and decided to attend one of her classes which I really liked. The mixed experience with new mommies and their babies is really helpful and quite lovely too! It's amazing to see how babies react during class and how content and calm they can be when we all sing Om together :) It's also very nice to hear first hand experiences from mothers and get all advice from them as well as Cynthea. It's a beautiful learning experience which I hope to continue throughout my prego mode as well as afterwards with my baby.

Price is a bit high but worth it. Classes are really small - so far highest nr of attendance has been 4 people which helps be more focused and get more personal attention in class.

I have already committed to do 10 classes with advance payment and am glad that i did. MYS is really close to my house so that works really great for me.

Tim Thomspon is by far my favorite yoga teacher in the East Bay. If you want physically challenging, open philosophy maybe some juggling and pull-ups included, it's the only place to go.

I am by no means a yoga expert but I have tried a lot of classes and Hatha Yoga with Tim is easily the most thorough range of poses I have experienced anywhere. He is pretty strict about form, but will show newbies easier versions of everything and of course helps the advanced yogis do all kinds of stuff to which I can only aspire. The class had definitely made me stronger and more more balanced and maybe even a bit taller. Ray's class is something very different. He is about as spiritual as you can possibly get without getting religious. He also starts off very easy and suddenly you realize that you are totally sweating and working very hard. Jo is also different. His knowledge of poses and anatomy is extremely detailed and he can really teach you how to improve your form in every pose with subtle detail about which bit are supposed to be relaxed and which are supposed to be bearing. He can immediately help improve poses with minute changes to angle and even gaze. I have to try the other instructors!

The IMY is a really great class that focuses on inversions, flexibility, and strength. However, I wish Tim didn't use it as a forum to express his political and social views (e.g., homeless people choose to be homeless and mathematics is a fraud) along with other weird ponderings (e.g., how did dinosaurs have sex?).

I've been a student at monkey yoga for over a decade. It's an amazing community of dedicated yogis committed to the hard work of self improvement.

I love this studio. Great classes for all levels. Great place to go if you are a beginner. Tim's classes are great as they offer a great challenging sequence for everyone and you can opt to do (or not do) whatever poses and variations are appropriate for you.
