I am always impressed with Barefoot Movement. They are as dedicated to their students as they are dedicated to their own personal practices. So grateful to have mentors like this. Thank you Barefoot Movement community. You are helping me transform my life.

No music, traditional yoga classes in the classes I have been to.

The most wonderful place to take prenatal yoga, and one of the most woman-positive & body-positive spaces I have ever been in. I started at 12 weeks and despite enjoying yoga had never cultivated a regular practice until now. It has been the best part of my pregnancy by far. They offer the largest number of prenatal yoga classes of any studio in the Bay Area, with a class every day of the week (varying between evenings or early afternoon on weekdays + weekend mornings). I am able to fit in 3-4 classes a week, which for $90 a month prenatal membership is a steal. Being in such a supportive space with so many pregnant women has been the highlight of my pregnancy. Located in downtown Oakland, I have also found this studio to have a community of more diverse working new mothers than other Oakland and Berkeley locations I had tried, where it seemed having a nanny/staying home was the norm (and felt alienating). So grateful for this community, Leonora and the rest of the prenatal crew.

This is a wonderful place for learning and practicing yoga! The studio has excellent teachers, and creates a learning environment that supports each practitioner's goals.

I've had the good fortune to be with Barefoot Movement since 2011. It's been a joy and a blessing to have such a wonderful array of helpful and inspiring teachers to assist me on my yoga journey.

I had the good fortune to find Barefoot when the studio first opened. They have continuously offered a space for all who seek to explore mind, body and/or the spirit of yoga. There are a variety of teachers who bring a multifaceted approach to the practice. Regardless if you are new or have experienced yoga for decades, Barefoot welcomes and can benefit all.

Horrible experience because I couldn't even get in the class when I was 15min early!
I waited until the time of class and nothing. After buzzing the right number in their outside speaker box and repeatedly calling their number. I kept getting their machineget and was sent to voicemail. I finally gave up! :(
I left multuple voicemails sharing my frustration that I couldn't get in. Then I get a call the next day!
The manager or owner heard my story and said that's unfortunate maybe next time. Very rude like and not even thought to say will give you a discount, a free yoga rental, or something after I took my time to walk 20min to their location there and back, made arrangements for a babysitter and nothing. I ended up walking to Ume Yoga down the block. I arrive to their class 15min late and they still served me and were actually PRESENT to do so.
Hah! And to top it off a week later I was walking by the same street by Barefoot and saw a older woman with her mat struggling to call and reach the yoga office too!
I stopped and ask her no luck right? They're not answering are there? She replied with no! I told her same thing happened to me! Horrible customer service and organization of their studio. I am a certified Yoga Teacher and my studios would never let this fly and if it did they would make it up.

Perfect for your downtown yoga inspiration. Barefoot Yoga has a passionate teaching crew, every instructor does a great job sharing their passion for the practice. The schedules for the yoga classes are varied enough so there's always a spot for my weird schedule. It's a beautiful cozy yoga studio, with a friendly and warm atmosphere, varied classes, not as expensive as other yoga studios.

My review is for someone who is beginner experience so I've only done the level I and II classes. I have however been to several studios both in SF and Oakland/Berkeley and will say Barefoot is the best for someone that wants to really learn yoga and how to properly hold the poses. All the instructors are great. They are all very clear in their instruction and hands-on in their approach and they have you hold the poses longer. I've noticed most other studios I've been to it's very fast and they don't really show you how to do the poses so the risk of injury is higher.

Location is great if you're taking BART as it's conveniently located downtown and the space is clean, spacious with plenty of natural light coming in which makes it seem bigger. Very lovely space. I've never been to a class where it's been packed like sardines so it's very comfortable.

Great neighborhood yoga studio, low on the competition and drama, and consistent teaching quality. Also the cheapest monthly payment unlimited pass I can find!

What a delightful and insightful team of teachers. If you are looking for community, affordability, small class size, and profound expertise on all aspects of yoga and/or becoming a yoga teacher in the heart of Oakland, this is the studio for you. I have grown and learned so much (e.g. Sanskrit, anatomy, alignment) since beginning my practice with Barefoot Movement and look forward to growing oh so much more in the months and years to come. (Highly, highly recommend the teaching training program offered here!)

I am in love with this yoga studio. I have been practicing regularly here since 2010, not long after it opened. At first I went because it was convenient, a block from work with noon yoga classes. I also loved that the prices are reasonable, that the vibe is friendly, and that it feels like each person is welcomed for who they are. These elements combined (and maybe because of the location?) mean that there's a diverse range of people who show up in classes (and teach the classes, too). Within the "convenience" I got practical instruction that helped heal injuries, and helped me understand my own body in the practice better. After a few years of regular practice here I signed up for the teacher training program. I thought I was doing it to deepen my own practice, more than to become a teacher. I discovered that, for me, the two go hand-in-hand. I really enjoyed the year-long program. I felt it gave me space to integrate and try on what I was learning before getting the actual certificate, with plenty of practice teaching time mixed in. And then I kept going: I completed the 500 hour program last year. Now yoga is a daily part of my life in a way that feels authentic, useful, and meaningful. I am so grateful for that! I still practice here regularly and feel lucky to now teach her as well.
