The gym is in decent shape, considering it was recently remodeled, but you wouldn't know that if you only saw the free weight section. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems that my people (Mexicans, and hispanics in general) do not understand the concept of re-racking. Back in the early history of gymnasiums it was understood that both cleaning and leaving things the way you found them were commonplace when it came to visiting one. As the decades have past, and people from all cultures and walks of life inhabit Los Angeles, the self segregated latinx dominates the areas of Downey, and Huntington park, amongst other cities in the general vicinity; where only 2, or three gyms reign king the extinct Bally's, now known as LA Fitness, and the common man's gym Planet Fitness. In the former, the untamed, never-ending bulking season meat head roams the free weight space deliberately leaving weights in all corners of the gym, in a way asserting its dominance, and marking its territory the way a dog does; and in the other, a species, motivated, but not motivated enough, soft around the edges person walks around looking for a new machine to pull on a few times before he/she considers it a proper workout. In this wilderness is where you'll find yourself if you visit any of these two gyms in the Montebello, El Monte, HP, Downey areas, or areas east or south east of DT. Be prepared to walk into a lightly humid space, more cluttered than my primo's garage, a man who pulls over when he sees a bumper on the side of the road that "only needs to be touched up, y queda como nuevo." A space where if you workout alone, and are not with your rafter (a group of turkeys) you're seen as a lonely antisocial turkey attempting to do the maniacal, and workout only one person at a time per machine. For maximum efficiency, bring as big a rafter, and focus on the free weight section, and if you really want to impress other turkeys make sure to skip your warm up and go straight into the heaviest set of weights you can find, also refrain from re-racking as you will be seen as a Pinguin and not a turkey. But if you insist and must re-rack, be sure to set the weights in exactly the wrong place. If the rack says 25, but you're using 1000kilo dumbbells, then you are in the right place. Throw those 25 g weights to a Pinguin or lonely turkey, and set your 1000000 kilo dumbbells in said spot.
People are cool here, they just don't re-rack, or have much gym etiquette. It's quite humorous to watch. Anyway, be ready to spend about a 1/3 of your time looking for weights if you're doing a free weight workout.
