I love Barbell! My personal fitness journey and a Groupon led me to Barbell but the feeling of accomplishment, after just one class, kept me going. I love a challenge and the way the group training is organized here never disappoints: the combinations of exercises are never repeated and the workouts keep me motivated to see how far my physical strength and will can take me.
The trainer was Stephen. He was very energetic, helpful and hands on. He was on his A game. Great class!
All the staff here is wonderful. As for the gym itself: there's plenty of equipment, in good clean condition, to go around.
noon class on Friday is legit! Not only is he a positive and upbeat guy, his classes are fun and challenging. He also plays some really good music!
Really pricey day passes, but over all great gym
I was in town for a couple weeks on leave and was looking for a gym to go to in order to keep up with training. Found out about Barbell Brigade from a quick Google search, discovered that they offered a 5-session stamp card for $50 (so $10 per session), and I gave it a go. Definitely one of the better decisions I've made during my time back home; few, if any, other gyms offer day passes like this and I was always greeted by very friendly staff whether I went in at 5 a.m., 9 p.m. or any time in between. They also have and encourage chalk use which is a huge plus for me since many gyms don't allow it because of the mess it makes. Still, the facility was kept clean and I was overall very impressed and enjoyed my time there. Barbell Brigade will most likely be my go-to gym any time I'm back in LA! They also have a sweet apparel line for anyone who's into that kind of stuff.

Great spacious gym with tons of equipment for functional training, weightlifting and powerlifting. For the weightlifting crowd, this gym has dedicated platforms with bars and plates in kilos which is really nice and rare in most US gyms in this genre. They have some of the really cool accessory machines like a belt squat and a reverse hyper. During mid-day it was not too crowded either. I was there on one of the hotter days of summer and it was pretty hot inside the gym but they have a couple of big fans that you can walk over too between sets.

I'm giving a three star because I still REALLY want to go to your gym! However, my little sister ordered a shirt from you in late November and we didn't receive it until early February. Which, if is fine if you had a problem with your screen printer? In regards to the T-shirt design, the pocket print was almost center towards the chest. For a brand trying to compete with larger companies, I would have expected a little more. Kinda let down with this being my FIRST experience :/

I thought, originally, this gym was an awesome place to get in a workout, especially if you are into powerlifting and bodybuilding. I liked all the old school equipment and the staff was cool. The only thing I didn't like about the place was the $100 monthly charge. This is incredibly pricey for a gym.
I am a full-time student at USC and I usually workout at the gym there. However, it closed down for the summer, so I had to find a new gym temporarily. I chose this place, because of the convient location and the fact that there were no initiation or cancelation fees, plus I love powerlifting.
I asked about the price when I joined and why it was so high.. I was told it was because they have equipment no one else has and they wanted to get more new equipment. I have been lifting consistently for almost 8 years now. I have been to several gyms on base, when I was in the Marines Corps, and countless civilian gyms in California and the South East, including 24hour, LA fitness, and Max Fitness. I can tell you this gym is not worth $100 a month, save your money and go elsewhere!
I was originally intending to give this place at least 3 stars and would've recommended it, if you don't mind the price. However, when I tried to cancel my membership on the 20th, of this month, they had already charged me $100 for the entire next month (the transaction was pending at the time). Granted, I had started my membership on the 18th, nonetheless I had not worked out there since the 16th and I didn't intend to workout there again. They would not give me a refund and kept my money. I was told that once the transaction went through they could not cancel it. Even so, they could've easily given me a cash refund, having a $20 a day non-membership fee, but they elected not to.
This ultimately leads me to believe that this place is just another money hungry gym. I would stay away and find much better gym that's worth the price.

This place really was a godsend. I had finished my weight loss journey and had gone from 225lbs to 140lbs at 5'6". This place, and more importantly Lu, Art, and several members helped me see that there was more to life than abs. So my journey started over and I went from around 400lbs (s+b+d) to the 1000lb club in a year.
The camaraderie, the support, the family vibe, the there is no failure only learning and improving and trying again. They truly are a family there. I am saddened that I no longer live down the street.
