Growing up, I always hated sports. Gym class was my least favorite class - I was one of those kids who tried to plot how to get out of running the mile. A couple of years ago, I started a documentary project that inspired me to try to get in shape - so I started running nearly every morning. I did this consistently for a few months - but with time, waking up early to do so became a struggle and my interest waned, so I looked for something else.
I found Bar Method on Groupon. I'd never taken a class like this before - I'd tried some yoga, spinning, going to the gym, and none of those things really stuck - but from the time I started Bar Method, it felt different. Not only did I feel myself getting stronger, but I was in awe of how the classes really focused on all parts of your body. I tried it for a month and loved it, then told myself I'd try some other things before committing to it - but despite anything else I tried, Bar Method stuck and has become a crucial part of my daily routine and all around wellbeing/self-care.
Of course I've noticed changes in my body (the first thing I noticed was my seat LIFTED and damn did I get excited!) - with every class you improve your poses, learn to work harder, go deeper, and feel each exercise the most. But I'd say the greatest benefit of my relationship with Bar Method has been mental. I am a documentary producer and my day to day at work can be incredibly challenging and stressful. I've only recently learned to prioritize managing stress.
I call Bar Method my reset button. I try to go every morning I can - and not only do I work hard in class and feel my body strengthening - but by the time I get to the office, I feel rejuvenated, fresh and ready to take on the day, and whatever challenges come with it. It has truly been one of the most positive things I've done for myself - and I'm so grateful for it!
