Been training here for about two years now and it's been a great experience. There's so much that I've learned in that time that it's hard to summarize it in a short review, but I'd say my biggest take away from my time training with Lia sensei so far is the idea of addressing a situation without necessarily attacking it. How do you resolve a problem without brute force, but at the same time, not shy away from it? I think it's a wonderful perspective to have both in and out of the dojo.
In addition to the philosophical aspect to training here, there's the obvious physical aspect as well. I always get a great sweat going by the end of class and it helps me tune out the world and clear my mind for an hour or two. I also get to experience a taste of different styles of aikido because of Lia sensei's open minded approach to the art and her active efforts in bringing different schools together for joint training sessions and seminars.
Even if you just want to test out this dojo, I think the intro packages and Lia sensei's sensitivity to each individual's training needs creates a perfect opportunity to sign up now.
The kids class here is fantastic. My daughter and nephew have been training at this dojo for about 18 months, and they have both received invaluable instruction in the art of Aikido. Besides that, they have forged friendships with their peers. It's a wonderful community of members and parents.
Aikido Kenkyukai is the perfect place to learn martial arts techniques and their philosophy! I am so glad having found this Dojo for my daughter and son. Practicing Aikido is very good for the body and the spirit, it helps to increase positively self confidence, serenity, patience and respect. By mixing tradition and fun, Sensei Lia Suzuki is the ideal choice for this discipline!
Thank you Lia!
Aikido is a perfect martial art for the millennial generation, and the Kenkyukai Dojo in Hollywood is the perfect place to experience it. Many, if not all of the things that young people are seeking from their exercise regimes can be found in Aikido. Like other martial arts, it builds agility, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and strength. Like yoga, it is also a form of moving meditation, a continual act of bodily mindfulness. And it also has something that yoga often lacks: every technique is practiced WITH someone, meaning that there is always an opportunity to connect with your fellow practitioners in a deep and mutually beneficial way.
Lia Suzuki's instruction is clear and generous, and she is always fully present with her students. There is also a sense in Aikido of belonging to a long and serious tradition of study. Life in LA can often be chaotic and unwholesome, but I always leave my sessions at Aikido Kenkyukai feeling centered and refreshed. It has done wonders for my health, both physical and mental. I cannot recommend this dojo highly enough.

I practice aikido in Canada at another Kenkyukai dojo. I visited Aikido Kenkyukai Los Angeles for one class last summer, and stayed for the kids classes. I really like how Lia Sensei gets involved in helping the community where she teaches, and she's great at giving the kids positive feedback and attention.
I had fun taking aikido classes. All the other students, weather they were experienced or first timers like me, seemed eager to help me learn. Would definitely come back to the mat again.
As an intern at Aikido Kenkyukai Los Angeles, I have watched Sensei teaching several times. I think Sensei is a patient teacher. She makes kids' class enjoyable. For adults' class, she conducts each student and makes them understand the each action.
I have had a really great experience doing Aikido here. The classes are easy to follow and great exercise. Most of all it has been very inviting, The Sensei Suzuki is very nice and you really get the chance to meet people and become part of a community. Also the introductory price can't be beat so if you've been thinking about trying some martial arts its a great place to go.
