Smaller than others but membership is totally affordable. They have Autobelay and Bouldering so you can go by yourself. Or go with a friend to Top Rope or Lead Rope.

I travel a lot and this weekend I found myself in LA, the closest bouldering gym to me being Hangar 18, South Bay.

The bouldering problems were challenging. I'm usually climb V3s and V4s. I found most of the V3s do-able with a couple of tries but the V4s were significantly harder.

The layout of the gym is a little cramped but the routes plentiful.

The climbers in the gym itself were friendly and welcoming, something that's important for me as a nomadic, travelling climber. The staff were perfectly polite although not entirely engaging.

I visited this gym for one time climbing during my visit in LA. While I later found out that they have special offer for first time visitors at the moment, they insisted that I should pay $33 for intro class+one day pass. They could have informed me that they are offering 45% discount at the moment. Unfortunately, I left the gym and decided not to climb at this gym because $33 was for one-time climbing seemed too expensive.

Plus, this is the first climbing gym that ever required me to pay additional fee for Orientation session.

Great, cheap gym, but it's cheap for a reason. You get what you pay for.

Pros:
1. They rotate the problems regularly.
2. Price can't be beat in this area.
3. Lots of parking and good location.
4. The kilter and campus boards are nice.
5. Clean facilities.

Cons:
1. Crowded. The space is way too small to allow people to Boulder and top rope at the same time, or even to get a decent rotation onto the boulders. The top ropers fall onto the bouldering crash pads since the belay area is too small and too close to the bouldering areas. The belay areas are usually filled with people resting from bouldering anyways. It's hard to get a good workout in when you gotta wait so long to get on the wall. Going after work is an exercise in extreme patience.
2. People have very little spacial awareness and will walk or stand under you while to you climb. This is worse when there's a little kids birthday party or something. Very dangerous and I see this often.
3. Not enough cubbies and lockers during peak hours. People just leave their stuff all over the floor. This could easily be fixed by adding lockers and cubbies. This gym needs to plan for their peak times better.
4. The weight/training area is an afterthought. One bench with a few weights doesn't quite cut it for the number of people using this gym.

I feel this gym has outgrown its current location. I'd be happy with a price increase and a bigger location to better accommodate the many, many members this gym has.

I wish they opened earlier!! Great facility but very crowded in the evenings. Would love to get an earlier climb in the mornings.

Started coming here as a beginner (still am one) and this gym has plenty of accessible routes that have helped me slowly build my way up the grades.

Great value for the price, especially with the classes that they host 3 times a week. I've only attended Monday yoga, but that's more than enough value for me right there.

Never thought I would get in to rock climbing, until I came here. A very addicting sport that is completely beginner friendly? I love it. It's easy for anyone to start at almost any age. If you can walk you can climb! Great bouldering, auto belay, and belay routes all around. And they change the routes often so you never get bored! If youre considering going here I would say just go for it. Try it at least once and if it's not for you, then it's not for you. But if it is, then it's an awesome hobby to have.

Very fun, and a very good exercise. My 4 year old daughter, my fiance, and I love this place

This is hands down my favorite hanger, it would have gotten 5 stars if the staff were nicer. I've only ever been greeted by two of the people at the entrance, the other guys just stay on their phones as if they have better things to do than say hi to people.

Moderate-sized gym. Routes are fun and challenging, with 2-3 autobelays, lead-climbing cave, bouldering, and belayed routes. I've been a weekly member since 2017, mainly doing level 10s. New routes almost every week.

Good mix of climbs. Another solid hangar 18 gym. Friendly relaxed environment.

Maybe it is shabby and gets hot easily, but no other climbing gym in the area has their one-year-membership deals ($300 ish, typical for any other place is more like $1000). I just wish they opened at like 8am.

A great gym with welcoming and friendly atmosphere. They update routes on Fridays and offer classes and training. If you are a beginner this is the best gym to go to. They could use a better weight/training space, but you get what you pay for.

A little tiny, but the environment is calming and colorful. It's tucked in the back of a bare business center. Very helpful & friendly staff. First day of membership, shoe rental is free, $3 thereafter. Try it, it tops a typical gym. Oo & they offer yoga. They do offer day passes.

My son who is 8 went here for the first time and absolutely loved it.

They change the routes fairly frequently and both the staff and fellow climbers are friendly. They usually only offer advice when you ask but that's because they don't want to to feel like they're criticizing you. Everyone is really helpful regarding climbing technique for different body types.

Great people and service. Good routes as well. It starts to get cold into the night though.

November 30, 2017 04:37

The staff here is friendly. Different types of climbing for all levels. It's usually not too crowded. Great Place to practice climbing, would greatly recommend it.

Love this place. Easy, no hassle membership for reasonable rate. 2 for 1 rentals on Tuesday. Bring a friend! Climbing is a great workout and as challenging as it is fun.

I agree with some of the other reviewers that you get quite sticky here, but I'm at a gym, it's to be expected. When we signed up, the staff were super welcoming and helpful, so maybe the reviewer that complained about that came at a bad time. I'm not sure. The bouldering routes are fun and constantly changing with some more popular problems hanging around for a bit longer. There is no water fountain at this location, nor the Upland location, so it seems to be a business choice. I don't like that. There are a lot of top rope and auto-belay routes and a nice lead section too. Overall good experience!

October 18, 2017 11:49

Lots of good choices for bouldering, top roping, and lead climbing. There's a few auto-belays if you go alone. Can get a little crowded during peak times

Kids had a fun time for 3 hours. Staff is extremely sweet and helpful. Signin takes time but it is at least modernized and they try to make it quick.

October 18, 2017 11:49

It's cheap and the regular climbers here are great people. The downside is how crowded this place can get. The quality of the climb could use some improvement, but that requires better sets, holds, and maybe just renovating the entire gym to state of the art walls, but then the gym won't be cheap anymore. No other gym can beat its affordability.

October 18, 2017 11:49

Pros: Nice people, challenging sets, setting every week, and by far the least expensive climbing gym I've been to. Bouldering, top roping, lead climbing available.

Cons: No water fountain, slightly dirty, and there's no air conditioning (it can get pretty warm and humid inside..)

Bottom line, I will be keeping my membership for the foreseeable future. This gym has been improving in the last year or so, most notably by resetting every week instead of what felt like twice a year.
