This is in my opinion the best academy i have ever visited. You can just feel jiu jitsu there!
Went here for a month when I was down for business its the best of the best honestly and you will pay a premium for it. But if your looking for the best one the west coast this is it. The Mendes brothers are legendary in the BJJ community they take training very seriously so if you do to this is the place for you not much of a casual vibe though so maybe no the best place for you if your not serious.

I live and train in NY. I recently subscribed to AOJ's online classes. It has been a TREMENDOUS investment. The instruction at AOJ is incomparable, they're lightyears ahead of the game.

This was a while back. The actual instruction is world class, management not so much.
I signed up for a month since I was only in town for a month. My gi wasn't the right color. The junior guy who signed me up told me just to use one of their rental/loaner ones and not to worry about it. This is great for a week. Then a different guy suddenly comes in and tries to charge me for using it. The fee wasn't cheap, at least for a college student. I told him what I was told earlier. He scoffs and tells me he's the guy in charge and that I'm making it up. Not even slightly apologetic. The cost of using that rental gi would have ridiculous, like doubling the cost if I actually went every day like I was planning.
At point I just went elsewhere to a much more laid back gym and accepted that I got ripped off.

Definitely the best place to train. Many of the people that train at aoj are passionate about jiu jitsu and train to compete. Aside from that there are multiple classes daily and the academy is very clean. I feel extremely fortunate to train at aoj and thankful for being around such great people.
The facility is always clean. Very welcoming staff. And the instructors were outstanding. Totally recommend this place for all ages.
Flew in to train with Prof Rafa. My experience was nothing but positive. I look to return in the future!!
First let me start off by saying that the academy is really nice and instruction is phenomenal. The only down sides are there is no freaking parking anywhere, you actually have to park like 5-10 min away from academy. It looks like they have their own little gang going on, weird atmosphere, people wont even look at you, they give you a weird look like " what the hell are you doing here?" Not that I wanted to feel special but I was excited to train with the best The Mendes Bros and I never was even acknoledge like I was invisible. Just weird armosphere adm weird looks.
