A few years ago, my then-fiancee and I were looking to shed a few pounds before our wedding. We'd been going to a typical gym (ClubSport), but felt we weren't getting the results we wanted. Plus, it was the kind of gym I never felt at home in -- people doing curls in the squat rack, olympic lifts disallowed, most people tuned out watching TV while not pushing their bodies to improve. The typical gym atmosphere.
I'd heard about CrossFit, but didn't know if it was more than a fad. When we took a tour of DCF, I felt like I'd found my personal fitness Nirvana. Finally, a place where olympic lifting was considered normal!
If you haven't considered CrossFit, I would highly recommend it. It works, and it's fun! My wife didn't do heavy weightlifting in high school/college like I did, but she's a convert. It feels very satisfying to pick up heavy things -- heavier than you could before! The 1-hour format of the classes is a great way to get better-than-personal-trainer results for far less money.
If you want to do CrossFit, DCF is the best place around to do it. First of all, they're one of the biggest CrossFit boxes around, which means more classes to fit your schedule. And when you want to do your own thing, there's plenty of room and equipment.
The coaches are friendly and accommodating of people with different fitness levels -- no matter how fit you are, you can get fitter and stronger here.
Finally, Craig, the owner (former CrossFit Games winner in the Master's category) talks about wanting DCF to be a real community, and it is. There are a number of events and special classes outside the normal routine, but people also seem to bond and form friendships here to a surprising degree.
