Mountainside Fitness Surprise has changed my life in the last couple of years. I starting coming to this gym a few months after I had my first baby. As a new mom the childcare staff was so welcoming and reassured me that my new baby would be taken care of. She is now almost two and I think she loves those ladies more than me. The classes here are top notch! I normally hesitate getting a gym membership because I don't have the discipline to workout on my own. The classes are what keeps me coming back, they have a large variety for all skill levels and the instructors here are phenomenal. I am in the best shape of my life after having my first baby and I owe it all to Mountainside Fitness. If you're interested in the classes here I highly recommend Evenstar and Kim K. They are both so motivating and personable. They have taken the time to get to know me and encourage me to come back. I love this gym!

My family has been coming to this gym for over 8 years. Decided to make a change to go to another gym in the area for a little savings. Long story short turned back to Mountainside fitness. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Especially when it comes to customer service and feeling welcomed and stress-free when you leave the gym. The staff is great at Mountain Side. Always make you feel welcomed. Plus the gym is much cleaner than most.

Sign up with Tracy for a massage, she's amazing! Pressure, points, not overbearing in conversation, it was honestly one of the best massages. For the gym; The staff is friendly, always clean, I have never had to wait to use a machine, the daycare is friendly ( I do wish the daycare hours operated later in the day on the weekends), now to try some classes!

Compared to other gyms around here, this one is my favorite. Always clean. Staff is always friendly. My friend uses the childcare they offer and loves it.
Definitely worth paying a little more for a great gym.

Gym is far too expensive for what they offer. They've also just had a rate hike on all their members that will go into effect on May 1st. They cite the minimum wage increase which is laughable when they are opening a giant complex on Tempe River. Maybe if you didn't close at 9 on weekends and weren't constantly overcrowded the hike would be justified.

Update 5/16/18 - The owner claims that there was no "rate hike" and so I have attached the email I received on April 17, 2017, that states that the amount I agreed to pay on a monthly would be raised by "$1.20" per month due to the minimum wage increase.

"Dear Mountainside Fitness Member,

Thank you for being a loyal Member of Mountainside Fitness. Recently, we have completed a number of improvements; including adding new equipment to update our fitness centers. We sincerely hope you have enjoyed these additions. You are likely aware of the recent change in Arizona minimum wage (Prop 206), which increased our payroll costs 20%. Now we are left with the unfortunate decision to adjust our current rates.

Effective May 1st, we will be updating our membership rate structure by $1.20 per month. We recognize that a rate increase is never a welcome change, however we believe it is necessary to maintain the high level of quality that we strive to provide.

We thank you for your support of Mountainside Fitness and we appreciate your business.

Awesome amenities, including child care, a movie theater, state of the art equipment, machines, free weights, a sauna, training staff, and a lot more. Plus it only costs approx. $62 a couple per month.

1/6/18 - Gym is still too expensive for what they offer. I just learned Planet Fitness is opening directly across the street with a bigger facility. You can say what you want about Planet Fitness not being a hardcore gym, but for 10 bucks a month vs 40, and 24 hours versus closing at 9PM on Fridays-Sundays, ill take it any day.

It's a great gym that has an excellent staff! It is a little pricey for what is offered, however, they do put $$$ back into updated equipment.

This gym is in a convenient location and was the only offering in Surprise for a long time. The prices are high for what is offered and the equipment is not very well maintained or clean. Bring your own wipes type of place or you will share the sweat of everyone from the day. And customer service here is touchy depending on who is at the counter. I would look around Surprise as there are much better options for better prices too.

They need more dumbells and adjustable benches. I find myself standing around waiting for equipment to free up.
And it is not just at the busiest times of the day, I workout at all different times and the free weight area (which is tiny for a gym of this size) is always the area most congested area. If they got rid of some of the machines that I hardly ever see being used and added more free weights it might be worth the price of admission.

Just went to try and get a membership for my family and what a joke. One one person working in member services. Waited for over an hour and after watching the employees there and hearing them complain about how they are short staffed and someone wasn't showing up for their shift. Watched the fitness manager just sit at his computer and not even bother getting up to help the poor girl in member services. A simple hello or hey let me show you around while you wait. Then to see their weigh in scale it's a cheap o scale you could buy at Walmart. Then for a girl with black hair come in to do reports at the member services desk with her kid walking around. Very unprofessional and no customer service. Wanted to get to a gym closer to home. No thanks we will stick with our gym.

It would be nice if all of the treadmills work, either the whole machine is out or the TV is not working or like many of them the ear phone Jack does not work properly so it's a guessing game everytime you hope on

The only pro about this facility is they offer squat racks and barbells, but don't expect to use chalk. Outside of that...This gym is mediocre at best. It is a large facility, but most of that space is taken up by treadmills and weight machines. The 2 50x50 areas they have for doing barbell work is poorly setup and generally used as a warm-up area for the yoga or spin classes. Numerous times we'd be in a middle of a workout and people would come in and use our stuff or move into our area. The other free space is over-utilized for the peak performance classes. They will limit access to a large majority of equipment for 4 people to use 1 kb each, while the classrooms will remain vacant and we get stuck with turning around and going home. Free coffee is available...But that's if you like air and coffee grinds; its almost always empty. No way to clean the equipment after you use it either which I'm all for doing my part to help clean up my space and sanitize my sweat even though the other members leave the place a mess.

I see people complaining about stuff that doesn't make sense to me or my husband who is a independent personal trainer. Compared to EOS, where he worked this gym is a really great place for families to come and get fit. If you want a cross fit environment this definitely isn't it. I'm going to get fit regardless of what is in this gym because I have the desire to do that. The classes are free for the family pack which is a bonus for me because I like Yoga and Pilates. If you want a family oriented gym this is definitely the place to be! I love it!
