Gym is far too expensive for what they offer. They've also just had a rate hike on all their members that will go into effect on May 1st. They cite the minimum wage increase which is laughable when they are opening a giant complex on Tempe River. Maybe if you didn't close at 9 on weekends and weren't constantly overcrowded the hike would be justified.
1/6/18 - Gym is still too expensive for what they offer. I just learned Planet Fitness is opening directly across the street with a bigger facility. You can say what you want about Planet Fitness not being a hardcore gym, but for 10 bucks a month vs 40, and 24 hours versus closing at 9PM on Fridays-Sundays, ill take it any day.
Update 5/16/18 - The owner claims that there was no "rate hike" and so I have attached the email I received on April 17, 2017, that states that the amount I agreed to pay on a monthly would be raised by "$1.20" per month due to the minimum wage increase.
"Dear Mountainside Fitness Member,
Thank you for being a loyal Member of Mountainside Fitness. Recently, we have completed a number of improvements; including adding new equipment to update our fitness centers. We sincerely hope you have enjoyed these additions. You are likely aware of the recent change in Arizona minimum wage (Prop 206), which increased our payroll costs 20%. Now we are left with the unfortunate decision to adjust our current rates.
Effective May 1st, we will be updating our membership rate structure by $1.20 per month. We recognize that a rate increase is never a welcome change, however we believe it is necessary to maintain the high level of quality that we strive to provide.
We thank you for your support of Mountainside Fitness and we appreciate your business.
In Good Health,
Mountainside Fitness
