I discovered this gem of a gym a few years ago when I first moved here and was shopping around. I visited all the usual suspects...Bally's, Life Time, 24-hour, LA Fitness, Mountain Side, etc. None of those were particularly impressive. I needed a serious place to work out, one where I could be comfortable and focused. After paying a nominal fee for a short test drive, I was sold. The main differences between this place and your average gym, for me, are as follows. 1) Clean, pleasing, peaceful yet energizing atmosphere, 2) GREAT selection of equipment, including the superior Cybex Arc Trainer and Crossrobic machines, 3) Diverse member profile (ages, abilities, etc.), 4) No pushy sales people or shady types hanging out, and 5) Friendly, certified staff who actually KNOW what they're doing (thank you, Michelle!). As a bonus, Bob, the GM, is approachable and truly concerned about the members. There are many other perks, but the bottom line is this: If I don't feel comfortable or challenged, I won't go to the gym. With SCCFC, I look forward to going. Yes, there are the occasional annoyances like rudely loud members or machine loiterers, but they are infrequent and brief. Mostly, it's a serious, focused fitness center with a great mix of equipment, people, staff, and ambiance. Works for me.
