A good friend of mine told me he thought I would enjoy CrossFit. As a regional qualifier in the CrossFit Games, my friend knows his boxes. He suggested I join Spark CrossFit and in 2 and a half years since starting, I've never looked back.
The owners, coaches and community are great! No one here has an attitude. Everyone, and I mean everyone is helpful and supportive and the staff's level of expertise is high.
The facility is excellent and clean. The equipment is well maintained and top notch. They just opened an additional 2,000+ square feet, so the box is spacious. Parking is ample and access is very good. The community keeps growing which, is one of the best indicators of it's success.
I recently moved my office which was located near Spark CrossFit. I now commute nearly 30-minutes to workout. But I never considered finding another box, of which there are many in Phoenix.
I'm 60+ in age, and have been active my entire life with many sports; from wrestling and martial arts to skiing and surfing. The physical gains I've made here are amazing and my conditioning rivals my younger years.
While I'm very competitive, the coaches encourage me to scale whenever they see I might be biting off more than i can chew. Some Rx's work for me and some don't. The priority here is learning proper form within your abilities. I noticed a review here from an older participant stating an injury was ignored. I have never, ever - EVER seen that here. If I've tweaked something, the coaches will modify the WOD for me or encourage me to heal rather than aggravate anything.
If you want to train for the CrossFit games, you can do so here. Or, if you are a mere mortal, you also fit right in. The expertise and equipment to take you as far as you can go is there.
Thanks to Will and Erin for running a great box and fostering a fun, diverse and supportive community !
