I am a physical therapist and strength coach in Fort Greene Brooklyn with over 21 years experience treating hundreds of athletes, dancers and performing artists.
I currently have a young client (post surgical knee) who I wished to observe during her dance class at the Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center. I had the pleasure of watching Ms. Smallwood direct a class of approximately 15 young dancers.I was very impressed.
Ms. Smallwood has a very intense stretch and warm-up portion of class, providing the perfect head-to-to prep for her students.
Core and hip stability training? Oh my goodness, very intense, but a very nice, progressive system of movements.
She has a perfect balance between sternness and sweetness when it comes to verbal and manual cues. She's very clear, calm and direct with her communication. She also has a wonderful way of tapering down some of the movements for those who may not be able to keep up with some of the more advanced students.
I highly recommend Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center for our New York dancing youth! We need more instructors like this in our community.

Started a crave workout class here last Saturday and I loved everything about this place. From the clean building to the nice staff to the excellent workout instructor. I will be attending all classes for now on and looking into other classes for me and my children
